Courier 2.5t '99 - Where to start.

Hey guys, being new to both diesel and turbo's I thought it best to ask for some ore wisdom before undertaking any modifications to my new truck

Basically I would appreciate any thoughts on my hope to get a little more grunt from her, I am planning on the following.

- temp and boost gauge (to keep an eye on things.)
- snorkel
- boost tap (any ideas one safe pressure to run?)
- possibly a large diameter exhaust down the track

I am aware that there don't seem to be many courier owners on here, but any advice/wisdom is greatly appreciated.

I would suggest exhaust before boost........

I own a 06 courier and now the warranty has finished am looking inthe same direction. But yeah exhaust and intake first then boost. Possibly a better intercooler too.

Have read on forum somewhere taking the intake piping out of the gaurd so the filter breathes fromt the engine bay makes a difference (pipe work into gaurd is small and restrictive). On my to do list

Post anything you learn on here so I can copy it.

I agree bigger exhuast with egt gauge, intake and better intercooler setup, then more fuel and boost.

Cheers for the feedback guys, I should be doing the gauges sometime next week and will source a snorkel, any suggeustions?

Also, what size intercooler would I be best to look at?

I'm going to assume the exhaust is important to the airflow with extra boost, what kind do you guys typically run? Something like a 2.5 with a single muffler?

I've got a 3 inch exhaust on my 3 litre diesel turbo (Dont ya wish you could try before you buy ) and if I could do it again I wouldnt go bigger then 2.75, so 2.5 for you should be fine. EGT is a must (in my opinion) and temp gauge/ boost coming in near seconds. I got some nice guages from auberins (google them) - digital and have alarms settings with relay outputs for a buzzer - nice.

Get it to breath in and out better and then play with fuel etc.

Those are some very nice looking gauges Heath, I cant say I have seen any with the alarm feature before, quite a handy feature!

Getting the breathing sorted first does make a lot of sense, looks like first stops for me will be a snorkel and to Magoo's

I take it that the EGT sensor will have to be tapped into the exhaust at some point, am I best to get Magoo's to tap for the sensor or is it a simple enough deal to do it myself?

Mines drilled and tapped into the system (Pitstop redid it with the new exhaust) after the turbo so isnt the most accurate but if the tip comes off then I dont lunch the turbo. Mine will eventually be moved to almost right up the turbos ass in the dump pipe so it gets the most accurate reading and as lose to the heat as possible. The alarm setting is cool (got it for my water and EGT) and my guages share the same alarm peizo. Still saving for the last guage (boost or oil press - not sure which yet).

Can get different colour LED gauges too if you dont like red and they link into the headlight circuit so when you turn on the lights they dim as well.
