toyota hilux front calliper replacement

Post by new2zukes »

hi id like to remove my double pistion brake calipers and replace them with a single piston caliper but was wondering if anyone knows of a caliper that has limmited or no changes required. it is for a small truck so doesnt need big stop power.

Usually the master cylinder is matched to the calipers at front & slaves in the rear... so to do it properly you would also have to change the master cylinder.
And i cant see why you would want less braking .... wouldnt it be easier to just not press the pedal so hard.

Hey, why the change? Mine worked fine with hilux 4pot front and drums rear (as well as any hilux drum that is  ) and is still fine with 4 pot front and single pot rear calipers post conversion. Thats all with the standard zuk master. There are a couple of swapable master cylinders if you feel you need more fluid push. May need to look at how much soft hose you have in the system too.

Dito , my 413 master cyl worked just fine with Hi lux 4 pot front and Mitsi single disc rear . Had a hard time bleading the rear thou , had to clamp the line and g clamp the piston in to clear the air in the caliper . Was mint after that :)

Bad calipers were found by clamping each flexi line and checking foot pedal .

We have all assumed you have bad brakes , maybe you want to change to a single pot tp reduce the cost of rekiting them :)

Cheers

was going to replace to both single pots as i thought i would have a little trouble in the future with bad brakeing but if you all think it will be fine then il just do the disk brake conversion on the rear. am having trouble finding maxima calipers that dont cost the earth. thanks all for your input.

I got my calipers from ATJ, paid about 80 for the pair. Remeber they need to be 90-91 3.0l maxima ones. The later ones are for fatter discs. There are a few maximas being wrecked on Tademe ask for the calipers.
