Last weekend I changed oil and oil filter in my 1993 GQ 4.2 EFI petrol. I had the front end of the GQ lifted on a couple of axle stands. Draining the oil was not a problem. It looked like the simplest way to remove the oil filter was to lie on the garage crepper and unwind the filter from above. This resulted in oil, presumably contained in the oil filter, oozing out of filter down the engine block and all over me plus some running onto the driveway.
Are there any tricks to this task that I should employ the next time I change the oil and filter that will prevent the oil spilage.
Any tricks in changing the oil filter without splilage.

When I do the filter on my Terrano, I crack the seal then place two supermarket plastic bags around it. As it is unscrewed the oil spillage and filter end up in the bags and not all over the truck/drive.
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

tried that last time... worked well until the bags ripped getting them out through the wheel well
I just chuck down one of those cheap tarps from the warehouse or mitre10 that you get for $2. Saves the garage floor and if it's too bad a spill I can just throw the whole shemozzle out

I do my oil filter outside my wifes garage (on the loose metal) any oil spill kills the weeds, clean up the engine bay then park it back in my garage. The joys of living on a lifestyle block, I have my own garage and man cave, wife has a double garage for her car, and my motorbike, stable for the wifes horse float and a shipping container where I park my tractor.
