Hello.
The blue spacer plate is available from trademe, performance car parts stores and probably even repco and supercheap. I was happy when my massive safari filter fitted to it as I was a a little worried. No need to ask for anything special either. Its just common nissan thread etc.
I bought it to just run an oil pressure sensor but it seems that I may get away without it now.

Re: GQ project.
Made mk2 adapter at work over a few days. It rotates the turbo a few degrees clockways to give the downpipe an easier path downwards. The adapter also tilts the turbo forwards to give the compressor housing more clearance to the underside of the bonnet.
did a test fit and I have tons of clearance everywhere including bonnet so

Dont be a ####, doug. My project, my money, my eveything. I can do what i want, take as long as I want and make as many small big little plans as I want. Nothing to do with you or anyone else as far as that goes. If I had a deadline it wouldn't be a fun project.
Besides, This things not taken 1/4 as long as some of them here.

I'm not having a go at you Nathan. Do whatever you want with your money

Just strange when you've gone down a certain track and its so close that you want to backstep so much. For the effort you've put into it, why not drive it and see how it goes then mod it more??
Maybe my way of thinking is just foreign

Re: GQ project.
just changing to a vh45 and newer shape cab.
One of the benefits with the v8 is that I can slide the cab rearwards an inch or so more so I wont have to cut the crap out of my firewall...and also shave a crapload of weight off the front of the truck- weight reduction is one of the main reasons i went to the lux cab so keeping the heavy straight 6 seemed really silly.
Putting the v8 in right now while the old body off is pretty simple so decided to go all out.
money was not an issue- the v8's are cheap- and the swap was covered money wise by the sale of my straight 6 and turbo setup.

Re: GQ project.
There's builders, and there's drivers.
Some dudes just like to shag around with stuff in the shed where its safe.
Others like to get out there and drive as much as they can and get amongst it.
You know the drivers because they have a project in the shed that never gets finished cause' they are aways out driving the "in between" truck they bought because they were having driving withdrawals
I can think of at least 4 people on ORE that have had to get a in between truck to tide them over
My point, you ask???
GET THE FARKN THING OUTTA THE SHED AND DO SOME WHEELING, LIFE IS SHORT

Re: GQ project.
Me too
flyingbrick, it's pretty obvious you're building the truck of your dreams but you'll end up looking like a tool when you turn up with something over the top and have no skill whatsoever driving it.
But hey, at least you make the suzuki owners happy when they float past you
But as you say, it is your money and truck so go hard!

You can add me to that list. I had to get a pajero so i could get out there while building my V8 hilux. now i've blown the motor in the paj so im looking for an inbetween the inbetween vehicle, still got to get out in the mud!!
Oh and good choice going for the VH45. Mate of mine runs a safari chassis with a hilux body and supercharged 1UZ, Makes for an awesome combination light and grunty

Just don't cut the back down or it won't go any where

Wow, during the lexus build I have bought an in between truck, sold it, fixed another - broke it, then started a build on that

I enjoy the building and learning new stuff (project) and driving as well. Just takes longer when you have lots to learn...

Is yours still in the build stage bud.? Mine is similar as soon as it was able to be driven and had brakes etc I've been out driving it and doing a few club trips now I'm at the point were I've popped it back in the shed to actually finish off all the little things like protection for the trans pan and engine sump, mount all the club gear like UHF and Fire ext and to finish off the wellside with hi-lift mounts/tie down points before I lay on the bed liner etc, then mod the bullbar for the winch and extend the solanoid wiring etc etc
Then just when you think you are close you find things like engine and gearbox rubber mounts torn apart so the list goes on but its all fun eh

But yeah the VH series of 8's are nice engines, I had thought about one but jesus they are massive and its hard enough to fit the 1uz in the little Lux bay.

Re: GQ project.
figured i'd post a quick update. Things have been real slow as have moved twice and had a break from work.
-Got a vh45.
-put v8s autos internals into safari auto box to give more clutch plates.
-put v8's bellhousing onto safari box to make it all bolt up
-bought new fiberglass jeep cj3b tub
-welded in new rear cross member which chassis will be cut off at to suit tub
-top mounted the alternator.
-cut out fiberglass rear guards to suit the 37's
-checked v8's chain guides (already had metal backed items installed)
-managed to secure a cage from another forum member- need to pickup when i get back from 2 week long work trip.
-machined high-lift jack slots in front bumper.
now waiting for more body parts to be found/arrive from the usa. Also need to cut and extend body 11" between rear wheel opening and door cut out.
Aso need to cut up the sump and get it flipped and extended. Work has a sweet workshop, im lucky as.
Can't wait to get it driving
tired of riding in mates trucks.
