Anyone narrowed an IFS front end?

Anyone narrowed an IFS front end for better travel?

Just doing a little dreaming about a possible project and am mulling through the ideas.

Think Baja front but with 4wd ability.

Are you talking longer A arms and narrower chassis :?:

Darinz looked long and hard for the new truck he is buildng, Ranna's new big black is ifs with major travel. No motor in between though.
Toy - Zuk chassis tub, hilux 4.88 axles and transfer, Nissan CA18DE motor and auto trans, sc12 supercharger, 32 10'5 simex, twin motor 8274 custom freespool. Well the parts are all there in various corners of the shed

Yep with a front wheel drive wagon engine mounted back a bit further to get room for the syspension bracing etc.

Long term plan and going to sort details etc before starting (and have to save up   ). Not sure what it will be fore, racing, joy riding etc.

Idea is that if I remove the tcase, I run a long shaft to the rear for 2wd fun (remove front dif, shafts etc) and for slow stuff with the tcase I get an extra reduction for bigger tyres and slow crawly stuff. Rear swing arms mounted about the rear of the tcase output for a nice long straight driveshaft with bugger all slip. Rear axle pushed back a touch too. Of course IFS isnt great for rocky stuff but it will be fun with all that travel. If I can get the engine back a bit so I can get the COG more rearward thats cool and I will stretch the chassis forwards a little for the swingarms.

It may all turn out to be apipe dream but nothing ventured nothing gained. Gotta find a buggered LWB vitara and a few other bits first...

Actually got to save some money and get the wifes permission first, but that's just details...

Thre are quite a few pretty serious ifs setup in the planning stages at present.
Search 'Total Chaos' as they do kits for Hilux and Navara. (D22 Frontier) 14" of travel, 4x4 and bolt on excluding the coilover mount.
But if you want to go completely over the top then how much HP. I'm planning one to handle 600hp + and that isn't that hard. The diff is pretty easy. Pajero rear is a 9.5" then you have things like Comodore that are really narrow and common. For the knuckle it appear one of the Chevy ones is a very good option and cheap (from the US).
Another option is Surf knuckles with cromo cvs then you can bolt on the 4 pot brakes etc.
So I wouldn't worry about modifying current ifs diffs as they are all pretty weak. I'd use a bigger IRS diff and just run it backwards. I'd also look at the cost of a 9" IRS diff from teh US as then you can do anything and the costs could be supprising!
Nissan Terrano coilovers, turboed VH45, Safari axles, and some other stuff.

This is a budget pipe dream.

I was planing on a FWD 2-2.5 litre petrol engine (so not alot of power) complete with transmission turned lengthways (welded diff) and a short shaft from the inner CV mount to the transfer case then out to the diffs. This should give me low gearing (maybe too low) and if I decide to play at fast stuff I would remove the transfer case (and front junk) and run a driveshaft right to the rear axle for 2wd fun.

I figure a steel IFS would do the trick when I cut and "squash it" then some surf arms bodged up and lengthened to get some travel (Surf IFS shafts cut and welded longer with std CV's). I figure IFS stuff is getting ripped out all the time so why not have a play with something no-one else wants.

The idea is that the engine can be moved back a little to give me space for the arms (narrowed chassis) and shift the weight back a little too.

Its more of a learning project (welding, suspension geometry, some fabrication, etc) and will give me something to do with my spare time (and welder/grinder).

I have a mental picture of a lwb vitara sporting a stretched wheelbase and long travel in the front, but in reality it will probably just get the rear stretched, a toyota front IFS diff, hubs, rear axle (if that  ) and then I will loose enthusiasm...oh and my money will run out.
