Right.Im putting it up to a supra box and just using it as a 2wd.The plate came off a 1ufze v8 and 2wd hilux 2003 combo(installed in a 88 ).apparently these will fit supra/hilux boxs. Most wreckers in auckland sell these motors for around $1500 with wiring/airflow meter etc.Im not to sure if you would need a plate to bolt your auto up to the v8 because the 1u v8s usually only have autos behind them.A mate of a mate has put one into a 88 4wd lux and he reckons its pritty nuts.Hope thats of some help.
Hi guys
having done this conversion a few times in 4wds I found its not as straight foward as just getting an adpator plate and bolting on a gearbox please consider what flywheel and clutch you will use as all Toyota V8s available are autos and toyota has not made a flywheel that interchanges. Then theres the computor problems, as the V8 computer is wired (??) up to the auto and a few accesories just to make life interesting. The only joy I have had getting around that problem so far has been by using a Link Plus computer at great expense ($1800 appox plus fitting). Engine mounts are not differcult but the hand brake is interesting. Cooling with all Toyoto's is a problem ( just ask the stock car guys) But with all these small differcults sorted out wheel spinning the rear bags at 80 ks in 3rd is fun and will impress even a RR owner. Although I dont want to use this forum to sell my product you have started the ball rolling (ok Mike ??????) The price for just the gearbox adpator from me is $175 plus freight Special to Offroad express members. PM email
cheers DJ
all the above problems plus many others I have sorted and have proven to be correct and relable.

okay a toyota gt4 (3sgte) flywheel bolts straight on to the 1u and there are h/d clutches available for these.these flywheels cost about $150.My friend who has done alot of these 1u conversions has found that the one with the link management actually runs worse that the one with just standard management. He is an auto electrician and has had no problems wiring them up with the factory loom maybe he could explain to you how.$175 jeez I shoulda bought mine from you.

so .....what do both of you know about if you can do this conversion wth a 4wd auto.?
Are you able to get an adaptor or is it easier to use the auto that comes with a 1ufze & modify the trans tunnel & driveshafts ? Can that even be done?
Or is it just easier to chuck in a small chev V8 & ditch the cpu side of things.?

Hi
I have driven small and big chevs auto and manuals, carb and TBI and yes a whole bunch more useable torque, parts easily found cheaper by far. But very heavy in the front, handling like a foreshore claim you never know whats going to happen next. Have driven a Holden V6 Auto conversion and by far the best with no mods needed to the suspension, but my own driver ( Surf ) I'm sticking to to the tried and proven Supra conversion its the less hassles and easiest and compared to Toyota V8 and is more than equal when driven in anger.
Cheers DJ

1uz-fe into vzn130
i have just fitted a 1uz-fe to an auto surf. it took a bloody long time to do the electronics as half the wires had been cut and needed to be traced back to their sensors and identified. i used the toyota ecu, but you would have to do this if fitting a link system anyway. i also had to "piggy-back" the surf ecu for the electronicaly controled trans, this involved a lot of splicing etc. to get the engine as far back as possible i used the original torque converter which is shallower than the v8 one. this meant having to get the bellhousing modified (about 3" removed). this was done by some local engineers but was 1mm out and broke 2 flexiplates. the bellhousing has since been sent "conversion components" and trued up. so far so good! to get enough space for the radiator to stay in its factory position i had to move the trans and transfer back 35mm. this meant shortening one driveshaft and lengthening the other. same for trans shifter and 2-4wd lever etc. this job was done in a workshop for a customer and cost a lot of money but the end result is brilliant! they should come
from the factory like this!
