Full throttle is on again - 23rd and 24th October

Post by BrentC »

Full throttle is on again on 23rd and 24th October (Saturday and Sunday of labour weekend) and I am looking for NZ4WDA members to take part. Full Throttle is promoted by Manukau City Council to encourage participation in car clubs, rather than street racing and using parks etc for off road activities. There is a very wide range of car clubs taking part, including 4 Wheel Drive. It is the start of the Targa Rally, Mustang convention and the 4 and Rotary Nationals. There will be classic ( and not so classic) speedway cars, Escorts, race trucks, drift cars, Motor cross, radio controlled cars, Military vehicles, off shore power boats etc. Most groups will be active with a range of tracks for different types of vehicles. Last year 25,000 people visited this event which is all free. Increased publicity this year will likely attract lots more people. The event is to be held at the Telstra events centre, right alongside the Southern Motorway Manukau City off ramp.

Last year a small but enthusiastic group of 4 wheelers put on a great show for the public and we had hundreds of spectators lining up behind the fence for a look. This resulted in some great publicity for 4 wheeling and a number of new club members.

What can we offer to 4wd club members?

Thanks to the loan of earth moving equipment from Porter Hire, We are going to have a specially built track to show off our vehicles. There will be axle twisters, a mud run, logs, may be, a jump or two, a wall of death, steep climbs and drop offs etc. The intention is race suitable vehicles “side by side” through the track. The track has been designed so that as soon as one pair starts , the next pair can move into the start box. As soon as the competing pair finish, the next pair will start, so no hold ups. We will be having side by side racing, every hour on the hour for as long as it takes to get everyone through the track as many times as they wish. Competing vehicles must have roll cages , helmets etc. There will also be time set aside for non competition vehicles to drive the track at sedate speeds and for suitable vehicles to give rides to the public so something for everyone.

The track will not be open for the public to drive. There will be secure trailer and tow vehicle parking and a pit area. An area has been set aside for static display and clubs can set up a stand in that area.

This is a great opportunity to take part in an event that is a bit different to what we normally do and a great chance to get some exposure for your sponsors. Whether you are a top end competitor of a new shinny driver, I encourage all our members to enter and make this a spectacle that the public wont forget in a hurry.

Commercial operators who wish to have a display should contact me ASAP.

Attached is an entry form that need to be returned to me.

Please distribute was widely as possible.

Holy hell I actually made it on the video. (zuk with blue noodle on front    ) Wouldn't mind being back this year,

Last year was great except I drowned the engine, broke the accelerator cable and started the downhill path for the release bearing.

cable sorted, clutch being sorted and snorkel pretty much done too. (Cheap version anyway)

So who's going? Last I heard Tony was still needing some more trucks for the 'racing' bit.

I am going sunday, but I only have a club class truck. I would still love to see more competition trucks, specially with loud v8's to attract the crowds. Club class is great for showing people what can be done with little mods but like anything full blown competition vehicles are what draws the crowds.

Saw most of those vids before. hope more people take some this year.

track does look cool indeed

Cool photos Si,

A big thank you must go to Porter Hire, for the generous loan of their digger, as without it there wouldn't have been a track to drive on.

Race times...

Lane 1 was the faster track, but still the times are pretty close.
