Recommend search function as well, but in a nutshell my experience seems to be indicative...theyre rattlely and noisy compared to the nice smooth whine of a Superwinch...but they seem to be pretty reliable. I have firsthand knowledge of mine and few mates and all have been used fairly hard and havent had any issues.
Re: Runva Winches
Mine seems very reliable, gotta make sure you get rid of the little red switch on the side of the solenoid box cause that'll crap out the first bit of water that gets on it. solenoids themselves seem really well waterproofed and so does the winch itself from the noob inspections i've done on it. Mine managed to pull a small yacht 10m up the beach when it washed ashore a couple of years ago with no problems.

Use the search.
We got 3rd place in club class at the Rotorua Winch Challenge running a Runva EWX9500.
It has done 4 winch Challenges and finshed in the top half of the field, the Hawkes Bay 24hr Challenge which our team won, and all the other club and private trips in between.
I have just removed it for a check over.
Besides some wear on the rubber wiper seals between the drum and the gear box and drum and motor (yes it has wiper seals, Superwinch or Warn do not), its still in fine form
I highly recommend the Runva EWX series

only problem i`ve had with mine so far, is the locating bolt holding the wire stripped out and releaded the wire, could have been my fault tho for releasing it out too far, but it deff could be made of slightly higher quality metal.. but for the price cant complain.
I also replaced the supplied solenoid cables for longer ones so I could mount it in the top of the engine bay.

Thats nothing to do with the quality of the winch, that is operator error. The M6 screw (6mm diameter) into the drum is there to locate the end of the rope so you can spool the rope on if you have an empty drum.
Its not there to winch off.
You should never have any less than half of the first layer of rope on the drum when winching.

Realise that, had about 5m still on the drum.

Re: Runva Winches
The bolt on mine has bent and I know of another guy with a 9500ewx that has his snap.
The only problem with mine is installer error, the winch moved forward under load and jammed the motor which then burn out
Only $250 for a replacement though

Was the wire rope wound on under tension? Shouldnt have slipped with that much rope on the drum.
I hate wire rope , this is just another pro in plasma's favour , doesnt seem to slip on the drum like wire.

Re: Runva Winches
Yeah-bit strange, but oh well, have bought 30m 10mm plasma. Should be sweet.

Re: Runva Winches
been wondering about replacing the wire on mine with something lighter one day (I just drive round carrying it and figure I might save some gas
- mind you I guess it would take a while to break even
). Wasnt sure if these winches were okay with nylon (plasma / whatever) rope because of the brake system on them. Read somewhere that they get too hot and damage the rope lowering its breaking strain..

Re: Runva Winches
Surely not. I would have guessed maybe 10 days max.
Have you been racking up traffic infringments
, I thought that was apart of the deal and you guys are personally paying for the repair of Chch's roads now with all the revenue/donations you courier chaps make (In auckland anyway).
On a more serious note, how many metres you figuring on getting? I heard somewhere that is best not to fill them to capacity with rope as it doesnt lay on like wire so is prone to bunching and buggering the winch.
Maybe there needs to be a ORE wide deal for plasma (or whatever its called now), surely buying in 1000m lengths has got to get the price down like the winch deals. Who was it that was bringing it in a while ago on here?

call into Cookes Al ... give them the measurements of your drum and they can calculate exactly how much it will hold depending on the thickness 6, 8, 10mm ... was down there the other day doing just that to get a price for replacing the overbraded plasma on my warn 9000
