The 1300 in my '85 413 has given up the ghost. I'm after some info on the more common, cost effective engine swaps that are out there. I see some guys with the 1600, some with the twin cam 1300 and others with the 4age. I guess each have there pros and cons. My knowledge is slim but have plenty of mates willing to lend a hand. Any suggestions?
PS; I will be taking the body off the chassis to attack some other issues as well if this makes a difference.
Engine swap
Re: Engine swap
An 8v vitara engine will fit almost stright in there (might have to lift the body a little or put a hump in the bonnet - I'm not sure). It will use the std manifolds, but requires a few bits to bolts in . Ben T has a kit that supplies all the bits to do this mod. Well worth the little effort and is much easier than any other option. Gives you the option of later going throttle body injection too (just add a TBI manifold and fuel pump, wire in the ECU and its done). If you get a TBI engine then keep the bits you dont need right away for later on

Re: Engine swap
Cheers for the info Heath. Will keep my eyes out for an 8v then. Is it worth going to the wreckers or are they likely to charge like a wounded bull?
Re: Engine swap
dont know about prices but I was offered a running 8 valve with all the bits for $400 delivered to me from wellington. I would have taken it but I didnt have the funds, so I would say up to $600 would be fair. nor more. best thing to do is ask/ring around

Re: Engine swap
They are floating around on here. Ask in the for sale section.
Post up where you are too so people know if they are too far away. Give Ben a call/pm too for a kit (easiest and best way to do it - why reinvent the wheel)
