4x4 light flashen in 2wd

i got a 92 pajero and the front wheel lights are flashing on the dash for the front wheels when it is in 2wd. i even tryed backing all the way up the drive. what could the prob be

Mine sometimes does it, putting into all wheel drive, till the lights go solid then back into 2wd sometimes fixes it.

or it could be the vaccum switch.

More than likely the solenoid is stuffed, I had this happen to mine, there is 2 solenoid on the driver inner guard follow the tubes you will figure out which one it is, from memory you can swap them over to check them but i got a spare set from pick a part and swapped them over and she is all good now, the other thing to check is there are no vacuum leaks to the reservoir on front diff, you cant miss it either
