Safari handbrake

Post by mudtroll »

I have just replaced the brake shoes on the tranmission mounted handbrake, one still had plenty of pad left, the other was worn right down. When put back together only the right shoe ( when looking forward) moves when handbrake lever pulled, which must have been the case before I pulled it apart explaining the strange wear on original shoes. Can't work out why. Anybody had this problem or can offer any ideas? Also can't get drum over shoes to refit, adjusted shoes completely in & have checked them for correct thickness.
I really don't want to pull apart again, literally a pain in the arse, back playing up from lying on the floor.

I think you answered your own question, don't really want to pull it back apart, well I hate to say it but you will have to and then free all the parts in there up, strip the whole thing down, lube it then put it all back together, that is what I had to do when I brought my safari.

Haven't had a problem since doing that... 8)
