Where to buy a pre made winch plate with 50mm hitch

Post by Swaney »

Sorry I know winch plates and winch mounts have been done to death here.. but I know what I want just gotta find where to get it now (or else build it myself)

It appears they are quite popular overseas but havent seen many around these parts. Does any one stock these locally or am I gonna have to horri one together?

I priced one out from USA but shipping killed it - shipping was well over twice the cost of the actually item.

Depending on what part of the country your in im sure someone could make one up for you.
Toyota Landcruiser FJ40, front and rear lockers, 35" simex.
Toyota FJ45 build in progress.
Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set.

Go and talk with Rick at 4wd acc, he could either make you one or order it as he gets alot of stuff from the states and that truck had a california licence plate. It's probably a jeep thing.

If you end up using one of these setups (and I think they are bloody good, beats the hell out of hanging a winch on the truck that is always 1/2 farked when you go actually use it), make sure that you build a whole new draw bar set up that is bolted on in double shear (through both walls of your chassis rails) and with well attached crush tubes. Also make sure the whole frame has the living shit gusseted out of it.
Then you need a real good, high amp (like 300+, depending on winch) plug set up and leads to match.

The cradle is the easiest bit of the whole exercise.
Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!

know a guy who runs something similar, i think they are great but after seeing version 1.0 i think i would change a few things and run 2 mounting points. He has only 1 similar to the pic above and has to run chains to each end of his bars to take some load and stop the thing cork screwing its self upside down etc.
Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level then beat you with experiance!

Cheers for the heads up. I am yet to make the front end reciever on my truck but the rear end has a reciever for the tow bar.. i was just gonna use that.. by the sounds of it some bracing could be in order

Have purchased some beefy beefy (weilding) power cable and forklift battery quick release connectors (meant to be rated to 500amps)

And yep.. i like the idea you can take your winch off and store it in the garage when not in use.. plus the fact that you can winch backwards as well as forwards.

yea ive seen some links of priates i think it was that had a winch plate with 2 hitch recievers.. makes sense as it would help negate the twist force eh

but as i have a rear reciever which is only single with 1 locking pin I was gonna run with that.. might end up drilling another locking pin in just to be a touch safer.. and put some eyes lets with chains on to help stop the twist as well.

cheers for all the help.. will post a pic in the next few weeks with it done with some luck!
