I have done this in my truck, its quite easy, and the easiest way is to my make a small computer for it and set it up for manual shifting as you can change gear when YOU want to and it does what YOU want it to do. there are many different types of computers that people have developed that are in use in the same application, things like shift speed etc. A common computer can only consist of a couple of one way diodes and couple of relays. It has been covered several times on here, and also www.lextreme.com so give these places a look.
