Full name of DoC

Hey all,

I was just wondering what the full name of DoC was. I thought I heard from somewhere that it is: Department of conservation and Access? or was that its original name?

I am not entirely sure. Was just curious really.

Its neverbeen called the Dept of conservation and access?

It was formed in 1987 out of a split up of NZ Forest Service, NZ Wildlife service, dept of Lands and Surveys and the National Parks board :mrgreen:

Actually I can see how you would confuse their title...DOC is DOC but they seem to consider themselves GODS of access :evil:

The original Conservation Act had 'Recreation' reasonably well recognised. That might have been what caused confusion, as for recreation you need access!
