Post by skux »

I have a 01 5L EFI motor im wanting to turbo, ive read up a fair bit but have come up with mixed ideas.

What will be involved in adding a turbo?

I beleive these are ecu controlled?

there are kits for them.
poor mans way is 2LT exhaust manifold and turbo. tho i think the turbo off a 2.4 is a bit small for a 3 litre.

then you need to chip the ECU or convert to mechanical pump.

Oh any ideas where to get kits from?

oh that could be a option, do you know what flange the 2LT turbo outlet manifold is? i was thinking of running a td04 of a GSR.

Yeh i was told they may need to be chipped but have found nothing info wise.

flange is toyotas own. afaik nothing else fits straight on. make an adaptor plate. some people fit the CT12 off the 1kzt motor.

kits, heaps of aussie crowds do them. no idea on NZ tho.

im thinking of using the turbo of the 1kz, will that bolt up to a 2LTE exh mani?

As by the looks of things thats the best mani for me to use to turbo my truck.

Still nothing on the ecu side things yet.

CT12 won't bolt straight up to the 2lt manifold. need to make an adaptor.

heaps of chips for the ecu's. the problem is cost.
the only thing i'm not sure with the atmo-turbo upgrade is if they run a boost sensor.

people keep saying there is no need for a chip to do this conversion, But i dont see how itl work with out 1 due to it being electronic injection?

There are a couple of 5l efi on trade me at the mo with turbos added, both who say which they dont think they have a chip installed.

Ive searched google a number of times but comes up with bugger all on this topic.

i wouldn't be to surprised if most just don't bother with the fuelling.
even some with mechanical pumps don't bother with increasing the fuelling and the rest just tweak up the basic fuelling (no boost comp).
the ECU may pour in enough fuel for a mild gain in power. but i doubt you will get any decent power without increasing fuelling.
i see a few kits on the net come with an addon box for the ECU to increase fuelling.
