2 Door Escudo Rear Disc Conversion

Can anyone tell me where I can buy the conversion kit from in NZ? And what calipers and rotors are people using? Any advice appreciated as i'm sick of drums and constantly cleaning them and adjusting them after each 4wd run. :evil:

I did a disc brake conversion using on of ben_t kits from Trade-me. Heres one of his other items he sells

One of the best mods done to the truck! Awesome pedel feel never need to touch the brakes other than to change pads and all 100% reversable as it all bolts on (no welding or cutting 8) )

I recently put another one of his kits on the back of my new project which uses similar componentry.

If you don't want to go through trademe, the guy selling the conversion kit is Ben and his email is: _benandpip_xtra.co.nz_

(Remove the _ before and after the name and replace the middle one with a @, just did that to avoid spam bots finding his addy)

Will definitely be looking at getting a conversion kit for my vit too at some stage.

My kit is a completely bolt-on conversion.

It uses standard Suzuki front brake rotors, and common brake calipers from a Mitsubishi Galant, which include a handbrake in the caliper and are sized correctly to work without an additional proportioning valve.

The kit connects the stock Suzuki handbrake cable to the caliper with no modifications to the cable required.

The kit contains:

Caliper mounting brackets
Disc mounting adaptors
Replacement caliper handbrake quadrants
Handbrake cable brackets
Brake hose brackets & clips
Handbrake cable mounting hardware
Longer wheel studs
All required mounting bolts
Brake hard lines pre-flared with nuts.
3-way T piece
Instructions

The only parts required are:

Mitsubishi calipers and brake hoses
Suzuki brake discs
Brake fluid.
Silicone sealer / gasket maker

Can be installed with simple hand tools in a few hours.

Price is $495

I like!

Any particular year/model of galant for the rear calipers?

And do you make the kits to order or are they available off your shelf? ie If I order one, whats the lead in time before it would be available?

The kit uses Mitsubishi Galant E33 (89-92) rear calipers, which are pretty readily available, and I have kits in stock.

I would rather just buy a bolt on one cos im largely mechanically inept... :D

Thought I would pop back in here and let everyone know that I took the plunge and bought a kit off Ben.

This is it installed - I used the discs from the front (which I have replaced with 5 dr vented discs and calipers) and the recommended mitsi galant calipers ($100 from wreckers - and in QT thats often difficult...).

Quite simple to install - had one early hiccup in that our Vitara is the later type with no adapter to the wheel studs plate - it is all one piece with the axle. But once identified, Ben sorted the correct kit parts immediately.

One other hiccup was that I had put 5dr handbrake cables on to improve articulation - these are too long for this kit and I needed to put the 3dr ones back on.

Brakes feel good on the short test drives I have done (still to be certed) and the handbrake is the most positive it has been in a long time. The cables don't bind up at full extension anymore either, so not expecting the handbrake issues we were having.

The cost is a fair reflection of what is contained in the kit I know that unless I was in the trade and had a lot of spare time on my hands, there is no way I could get the fabricated parts made up for anywhere the same price.

Overall I would highly recommend it, especially those amatuer mechanics amongst us. Thanks Ben

As soon as I sort the speedo calibration. The certifier has said it needs to be within 10% and our first test showed a speed of 112 while reading 100.

Speedo is in pieces at the moment and I was doing some adjustments along the Remarks Road last night, but not greatly successful. When it is good at 100km/h, it comes to rest at about 20 - 30. I am a bit to pedantic to accept that. Probably need to "tweak" the return spring a bit more.

Have only just got back to the vehicle - was overseas for a few weeks too.

Cool man, when you get the speedo sorted it would be great to see a "how to" for other guys looking at doing it the same way. I managed to correct the speedo in mine by fitting a lower ratio diff, lucky that the V6's have the higher ratio diff standard.

Good luck with the cert, doesn't look like you will have any issues, looks like a good clean job.

Might sound like a dumb question,
But does this kit work with the 5dr or do they already come with disk breaks.
BTW i don't have a Escudo/Vitara, but i'm contemplating getting 1 this year.
