Bending Sils to fit Rock Sliders.

Post by ONOescudo »

Have had a Pejero SWB for 6 weeks. And am slowly wrecking it in the Sills department. (Just like my last vehicle.)

Quite keen to building up some Rock Sliders along the lines of these, but with 4 separate braces back to the chassis.

The thing is can I bend the double flap of panel steel that hangs down? (and is the first thing to be caved in by rocks / etc.) this will allow the Rock Slider braces to be 20mm higher.

I say this because my now deceased 4x4 has serious sill defects and still got WOFs no trouble. SO a little bend here or their cant be a WOF failure. Iv had to wave the sledgehammer at the Suzuki to regain the use of the doors. Looks a lot better than the photo.

Any thoughts on sill adjustment?

Cheers MIKE.

Don't see why not. As long as you don't block off the drain holes.
They are only a crease edge to terminate the panel steel at after all.

my first sliders put pipe impressons in my sills mrk 2 model the box section sits 10mm below the pinch weld , so that if a load pushes the bars up the box section rests against the pinch weld

Now you come to mention it there are drain holes, 3 per side. Better not fold them up. Thanks for that dude.

What about a soft rubber pad /strip between slider bar and bottom of sill? Asking for trouble I guess. A 10mm gap is good insurance.

If your sliders are built properly they will not flex or move. I use box section to manufacture mine, and they do not move at all (but they are probably overkill to a degree as my exo cage also mounts on them)
