Just turboed my 2.8. Whats a good size for the exhaust? people have said 2 and a half inch and 3 inch?
Is 2 and a half enough? 3 seems like over kill?
3L (2.8) turbo exhaust size
Re: 3L (2.8) turbo exhaust size
I also have a 2.8 and have been told 2 &1/2 is the way to go
The trick if you can call it that is to go all the way from the turbo
A lot of people go from after the flexi join because of the price

There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.
Re: 3L (2.8) turbo exhaust size
I turboed my 3L about 18 months ago and did 2 1/2 exhaust at the same time, runs real good and seems to get the heat out well. Wouldn't go any smaller though.
Re: 3L (2.8) turbo exhaust size
Im goin 3 inch on my TD27t. The TD42t guys go 3.5 inch if thats any aid to you

Re: 3L (2.8) turbo exhaust size
Got 3" mandrel on my 3lt prado and i think its slightly too big (noisey now - it drones). 2.5" should be okay unless you are going heavy on the mods.
Re: 3L (2.8) turbo exhaust size
2.5 is ok, 3" is a little bit better but costs more.
sound, it all depends on what mufflers, if any, you fit.

Re: 3L (2.8) turbo exhaust size
Im thinkin along the same lines as the others, 2 1/2 inch for a 2.8 litre turbo. there seems to be a masive price jump when you go to a 3 inch pipe especialy if you run a flexi on the system, i've got a 4.2 GQ nissan with extractors and 3 inch mandrel pipe, and remember that dam flexi being about a third the price of the pipe work, also the 2 1/2 pipe will be easier to tuck up under the truck. good luck dude.

I got my 3" flexi for $50. Ill admit I shopped around, but Arthur Low exhausts in New Plymouth was the cheapest for everything, flexi, coby, and combo bend.

Whoever told you that a TD42 needs 3.5" is an idiot! 3" is good enough for about 700hp depending on the length of the exhuast. I don't know of a single td42 that would even need, or would benfit from a 3.5" exhuast.
Nissan Terrano coilovers, turboed VH45, Safari axles, and some other stuff.
