PADDOCK HACKS ROUND 2.....

Post by tuk »

My mate got a call from the producer of paddock hacks, tv3 are keen to make the series so are just in the process of orgainising another filming of the 4x4 section featuring my mate. hes put some heavier gear in his little zuki farmworker so definitly watch out for this when it finally gets aired.

What concerns me is the total lack of protection for the driver in some of those shots...
The youth of today don't think and when they see some organised hooning are going to copy it...

More deaths.... Or pis--ed of Farmers.

Otherwise it looks COOL

I hear you bout safety but as you will know the more safer you want to get the more expensive things get. We dont do anything that crazy, just powering it in 1st gear through the mud. as the title of the video states it paddock hacks so they machines we use are about to die usually and we just help them into the grave. Youl be hapy to hear that the 4wd in the video has a cage now.

I've seen plenty of vehicle roll in first gear that would crush the roof and injure the driver if it wasn't for a cage.
A basic hoop behind the drivers seat with a diagonal in it could be bolted in and moved from vehicle to vehicle with very little cost.
Not fitting one is plain dumb IMHO.
I mean it only has to stop the roof colapsing onto the driver so doesn't even need to be the width of the car!

Even a smash up derby has very basic rules....
Case in point http://www.woodfordglen.co.nz/derbys.htm
Don't need to use all of them but say.
Helmets
Basic loop bar.
No glass....
Limit fuel on board.
Just cover yah butt....

Darinz is right a simple hoop would not take much to bolt in and out of a car, being paddock hacks it doesn’t need to be flash just there to save the drivers, I bet 99% of ORE drivers would not drive how shown in the video, unless competing but then a cage is a must if competing. I’m just saying that we would like to see this show go to air, but don’t want to loose it if someone is seriously injured in a roll over that can be prevented very simply.

actually i saw one of the working dogs jump the fence, hes definitely gona needa a cage or at least a helmet if hes gona do that :D :D

Hahah myself being brought up on a farm I've had about 7 different paddock cars since i was about 12 and yes we jumped it, yes we rolled it, yes we drove it into the creek yes got it stuck..... but all of this was done at low speed and while wearing seat belts. I mean flipping a car at low speed on the grass or...... flipping your road car at 100kmh on a tarmac road and our road cars don't require helmets or rollcages soooo i can't see why paddock cars should......

This is starting to get interesting.

Paddock hacks is an activity which is off the radar to most people, do it behind the barn in the back paddock type activity.
To thrust it out into the public gaze on a TV program.....Hmmmmmm

That's the problem...(As I see it) Asking for trouble.

Enjoy your pastime... Let your city cousins have a skid when they come and visit....Kick the kids out into the paddock and thrash the old mazda 323.....

But as soon as you want to share it with the world....

Then you need to cover yah soft bits.

As for comments like "Cage all cars"

Driving on the road is a controlled environment (99% of the time)... Most people are trying to drive within the cars design and the Rules of the Road....NOT skid it all over the place, see how high you can jump off the bank...so you cant compare Paddock Hacks and a road vehicle driving from A to B.

Just as a side issue "How many farmers and farm workers are killed every year on Quads...."

Answer "Too many"
