Slotted/Drilled rotors on 4x4

Post by juz »

Just wondering if anybody does it or if its just a waste of time, get clogged up with mud and shit?
The Cruisers brakes are rubbish for what they are(discs all round)
am going to replace rotors and give it new pads just wondered if its worth getting slotted rotors. All things going to plan should be getting a 1UZ up it at start of '2011.

Maybe just a slightly softer pad so it can bite in more.

The main reason they do slotted is for extra cooling when racing etc.
A down side is can make the rotor weaker & can be prone to cracking around the holes.
But if you have problems braking in wet situations it might help as its easier for the water to get away from the rotor.
Would pay to check before spending money that all you dont have any siezed pots etc.

all the slots and holes do is pick up stones etc and grind the pads away
replace them with std pads not the HD units as the std pads a way softer and work better when they are covered in mud and crap etc
only real down side is that you will go thru pads faster. but that come down to a mainantance issue lest you will have better braking

just on the side if you are doing real heavy towing then want to go off road then std pads will get hotter faster so be awhere of this

Thanks fellas, thought they may just pick up crap. The Rotors are thin and quite scored(that a word?) so will replace them anyway. Have read on other sites that there known for being crap brakes.

The brakes on the 80 we had were absolutely rubbish. We replaced all rotors and pads with new OEM parts, replaced brake fluid etc, made a huge difference. The brakes actually worked and had some weight in the peddle.
Slotted, drilled etc pickup to much crap off road and wear the brake pads away as mentioned above.
