rope or strap
rope or strap
in a recovery situation what are the pros and cons of each just asking because i am looking at some recovery gear but not sure which is best
Im not expert but did get to watch one of the videos on http://www.4x4tv.co.nz
that had a peice about recovery straps. A rope has no give in it and when doing a recovery using one there are a lot of violent forces being transferred into the vehicles.
With a proper recovery strap or snatch rope/strap there is some elasticity and the vehicle pulling wil cause this energy to be stored into the the rope the transferred into the vehicle that is stuck.

12 plait polypropylene is the most popular of all recovery/snatch rope/straps we sell. Its a bit bulky to stow away, but great for recoveries. I've never heard of one breaking, although they will give a little 'twack' as the loop splice tightens (only if it came loose). Easy to check by starting off easy, which is recommended procedure for recovery anyway.
