Re: BJ74, UPGRADE!!
The only 80 parts Ive got are the rear diff an lower control arms which Ive used for the top arms at the back. The rest is 60series 5 speed chev motor, assorted patrol bits an custom shit Ive made to get it all to fit
Id pretty much planned on making the back panel out of marine ply, screwed into the frp top an glassed over that with a large hole in the centre for a perspex window

Re: BJ74, UPGRADE!!
Progress has been slow the last few weeks, (been waiting on engine bits)
But this week things have started to fall into place (funny that, been working till 10pm most nights last week on it
)
Ive got the engine 90% complete, new heavy clutch,

Rear guard chop all welded up, Can stuff the 37" wrangler right up into the guard without it touching the rear of the guards

Back panel for the cab started, just got to pull the frp top off an glass over it,

Started the rear section of the exo as well last night an today I got the engine an box sitting in place
My memory card isnt working so ill put more pics on the 1st page tomorrow

Re: BJ74, UPGRADE!!
Well I was hoping to fire the engine up last night but got side tracked with a few other jobs that really needed to be finished off before the engine could be started.Feels like one step forward two back at times
But I did get the engine an trans mounts finished, (for now
) pulled the roof off to be fibre glassed, did some chassis mods at the front to move the winch up an back in the chassis to give it a better approach angle.
Cut out the tube cross member an made a new one about 75mm furthur back.

Mounted the radiator just behind the new x-member. Engines is pretty much ready to go apart from the wiring (12v to 24v)
Having issues with my camera so pics are linited at this stage

Re: BJ74, UPGRADE!!
So how are you going to handle the 24-12v switch? Running two batteries with the motor on one or a converter? Looking really good BTW. Also - what are you using to fuel it? Carb, injection, LPG?

Yeah that goal was good except the engine reconditioners took their sweet farking time with my engine machining.
Electrics will 24v with 2 batteries. Ill run 24v relay with 12v feed for the starter an same for the 12v ignition feed for the hei dizzy. 12v will run off one of the batteries with 24v alt an a charge equaliser to top up the 12v battery.
Will prob swap batteries around once a month to keep them both happy an charging at the same rate but theyre optima red tops so they should handle it quite well
Fuel will be handled by a edelbrock 600 carb that came with the engine. It ran quite well before i rebuilt it but it leaked oil from every where possible

Re: BJ74, UPGRADE!!

Re: BJ74, UPGRADE!!

Certainly has a cool stance. Will be even better once you get the muddies on. How bout just using conveyor belt for guards? Keep it on the road and they should hold up to being pushed into banks and trees
There's gotta be some rocks round here SOMEWHERE!
Re: BJ74, UPGRADE!!
Pretty much planning on making tube guards front an rear tied into the exo cage. Ill leave them about 50mm inside the outside tyre line so they dont get caught up in banks an rocks etc.
Stance wise Id like it to be about 50mm lower in the back but once the exo, spare tyre etc is on I think itll drop down enough an ill have to raise the front a bit

I can agree with you on that one. too loud makes driving at the end of the day not so enjoyable.

Time for an update
D/shafts an alternator pulley are away being modded
Went to pick a part last week looking for a 4 pinnion terrano diff head to put my front lock-rite into, they only had one terrano so I pulled out the diff an found it to be an lsd
So swapped the lsd centre into my spare patrol diff head
