Blowing Smoke On Start Up

Post by JimmyRabid »

Sorry but you's guys have probaly answered this question a thousand times but I done a search and there seems to a lot of different answers. Also this is my first deisel.Anyway heres the go:

I've got 1993 SSRX 3L 1kzte 233000 km's, noticed it blowing a puff of black smoke after its been sitting at work (12hrs) did'nt really think anything of it as I've been told its pretty normal. Then the boys at work kept noticing it when I started it, I was looking out for it but for some reason could'nt see it in the mirror. So got the old man to crank it over today while I stood at the back. Sure enough, took a bit to crank over and first there was white/greyish smoke then black just for a few seconds. I've been waiting for the coil light to come on and off and also the relay to click everytime I start it. Today was the longest it taken to start for some reason. The dude I brought it off said for some reason it did'nt start everytime when its been sitting in the sun on a hot day some time and its been bloody hot in chch as of late. Dunno bout this one, never heard a vechile doing that.

Been told maybe the glow plugs? but they where done 210000. Other than that maybe the injectors and might need a flush out? Cheers for ya help

Edit: Left it over night. Just tried the tripple heating the glow plugs trick to rule them out and still got some smoke, only black tho and it kicked over pretty fast. Turned it off let the timer run down and cranked it again this time a very small amount smoke.

Should the timing belt and fuel filter light come when the key is turned on and and waiting for the relay click?
