Vitara front tow point

Post by churchill »

Does anyone how to set up a good tow point on the front of a Vitara? My rear factory tow point has almost parted company with the chassis and the front won't bo to far behind if I get any more pulls.

I had a discussion with Neil Fraser when I went round to do my certification, What I was thinking for the front of mine was to drill out the two mounting points for the front bumper to the OD of some 12mm ID pipe, drill through the other side of the chassis (12mm), insert a crush tube through the chassis, then bolt some strengthening plates to that. Neil said it would be fine as long as I don't start welding to the chassis.

A bit hard to explain, but basically I want to run bolts through tubes through the chassis so it doesn't crush when I torque the bolts.

For the rear I just use a shackle through the tow bar tongue, tow ball removed.

Here is a good front tow point. Think he’s got a truck recovery hook bolted to the tow bar. Also for sale. Nice bloke to. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =338041839 Cheers MIKE.
