Here's a wee project I've got on the go at the moment, love them or hate them I think they'll look pretty good on the 40!!!

If anybody thinks my D shackle mounts may come under scrutiny during a WOF, seeing they are protruding let me know there is still time to make changes, heads for paint Monday

You shouldnt have any of trouble ith the d shackle mounts, I had similar ones on my 40. Pretty sure if someone gets hit by them the rest of the bumper following it will do way more damage

This sort of thing is just asking for trouble. It sticks out like bloody great wings which are going to actually attract the very thing that your bar is supposed to deflect. And it is oober ugly, but with new outer wings and a bit of work on the bottom bar to improve approach, it could be made to work and look alright. Mind you, can't tell how far it hangs off the front from that angle either.

If you have too much room around your bar, as soon as you go bush and have to actually use it to deflect undergrowth, tree branches etc, things go wrong quickly. The very stuff your bar is supposed to be protecting your rig against is now being jammed into all the big arsed gaps you have and are quickly looking at taking out the rad, lights, grill, front guards, and I have even seen them jam in between the bar and front suspension stopping forward progress instantly.

Making a good bar isn't that hard, but you do have think about it a bit, and some people even come up with some really effective and good looking units.

Bar work is always a look good verses practical functionality. And what one thinks works others don't.
I have seen some interesting bar work.. Which works but is just butt ugly.
When I and my Bro made mine it was protection and sort of looking o.k
I don't think we did a bad job...And it certainly has saved me a few time.
My first attempt at sidebars worked, but were huge oversized running boards with attitude... However they were that way to help the kids and wife get in and out safely. Now the kids have grown up the side bars have shrunk.


I hope we all keep sharing our barwork for good or bad... Gives us all the opportunity to see what others have done and make the ULITMATE BULL BAR Arg Arg...

That flatdeck 40 above I think is just a little over killed. It's still got that, "wow" factor going on though.

This is my bro new bar setup.
Looks way better than the first attempt.
I still think the 2 rear vertical bars are to far away from the body.
But he says there's still things he wants to do to it.

i can think of two functions, to help rock slide the front up bloody big rocks, and/or to help prevent it going end over end on drop off

or a third option it to totally wipe pedestrians out when they step out in front!!! i would think with our "bullbar" rules it would be illegal to have that here, as it would drive walkers under the vehicle

you could be right there pedro. it prob would direct them underneath the vehicle but really getting hit by any 4x4 especialy a lifted one is not going to end well

just trying to find a pick i have of a 40 on rockwells standing vertical with the only thing stopping it from falling right over is the stinger will post it when i find it

i built a few sets of bars like yours about 12 years ago, Tararua club std bar i think, we had inch pipe running from the rear hoop of those bars around to side bars, vary effective at bush bashing and protecting the front, and being inch pipe fairly light,
and don't get hung up on things,

I built mine with the hoop out front cause I like the US 'stinger' style, It works excellent for bashing through the bush too and just seemed to tie in well with the rest of the barwork I was doing. If any pedestrians can make it out alive after being run over by my 80 series, then spat out the back and up onto the trailer that the 70 is on at least then they will be fed safely out the back and onto the tarmac to be speared by a honda with a bunch of fibreglass scraping the ground
