Diff ratio cause problems?

Post by Karl0z »

Hey guys, I'm swapping out my rear diff in my kzn130 surf with a 1kz auto, and I'm just wondering if it'll cause any issues with the vehicle operating in 4wd if the front and rear diff ratio are not matched? Any info would be great thanks guys.

It might be more fun to put little tyres on the front and big ones on the back.... then chuck it in 4wd and see what happens...

I'm no mechanic but would gather they need to match for a reason.. :)

Diff ratios must be the same front to rear..
Or you will get Transmission wined up in the drive line. And break something.

And as long you only ever engage 4wd on shingle, minor diff ratios differences are not to major as the terrain allows for some slip in the drive line.
However, unless you are very onto it this can cause other issues after a lot of use as it is generally accepted only in performance circles.

So yes, make the ratio's the same.

Sweet no worries. If it's g294 I'm 4.1 correct? What's the theory on working it out for future reference? Thanks again.
