When you see the massive roo's jumping round you understand why they have them. It's even better when you see them on a new commodore

This is off my old truck.
I've built a few now and I now always make sure there is a flat plate to act as a skid plan / ramp rather than horizontal bars. The second one I made was all tube and it use to dig in really bad even though the approach angle was really good.
The one in the photo works really well as if you hit a bump or a bog it actually lifts the truck over it rather than digging in.
It is also really light as it was made out of 3mm core 10 plate and triangulated to get the strength. the only 6mm are the end plates that attach to the chassis.
If it was on a DD rather than comp truck then you'd put more strength into the wings and add corner protection but as it was race truck, who cares!

I like mine, handles running anything over with ease:

But naturally if you hit it at the right angle it'll bend. On the left wing (right side of pic) the top plate of the wing popped up and hit the lights etc and the bottom plate popped downwards then the whole thing bent in and hit the guard

That intermediate bar looks like exhaust tube
A bar is not much good if it bends up and damages the very thing it is supposed to be protecting.
Looks like a fairly good design though, just not strong enough.

Oh and that one above, certainly looks like it would bar u up very goodly
Ugly is a state of mind..... and the state of my truck!

Yeah, from memory the main tube is 2" OD and the middle one is 1.5" before I got made redunant I was planning on cutting out the middle bar and making it the same as the main bar. All pretty think walled stuff but you gotta realise its an 80 Series (tare 2.7t) and I wasn't casually falling on stuff, most of the damage was done with some pace. It's handled everything I've thrown at it so I'm happy.

Put it this way, much rather have the bully have a hard life then have to deal with replacing body parts and straightening chassis rails every couple of months. The one time it bends on me wasn't even off road  Just the wrong angle at the right speed
