25/26 Dec

Post by rotordogg »

For me xmas was on friday, that's when I had my kids and did presents etc!!
My kids are with there mother today, My misses couldn't be arsed getting out of bed today (she been working long hours) so I have the day to myself!! :D

After a couple of months of working long hours myself and not much time to keep up with work on vehicle's, I slept in this morning, then came into work after lunch to do a few small job's on my vehicle's:

Tyre's reassembled onto rims and onto the suzuki, Washed suzuki,
Wheel bearings pulled appart, cleaned, inspected and reassembled on the corolla,
lada's steering box remounted and vehicle's tucked away in the factory while we're all off on holiday...

Tomorrow I'm off to hamilton... :D
It's just more fun in a lada !!

Finally got up and sorted the dual battery set up in the Bitsashitty.
Removed the canopy and fitted the shooting frame for a bit of bunny killing later.

Thought I'd do some work left over from last weekend.

sibainmud wrote:This weekend can be put into three parts
(with the compulsory over-use of smilies  )

What I fixed........

Saturday.
Found diff lock air compressor siezed
Pulled it apart, found circlip had fallen off the crank and it had thrown the con-rod off the crank too  :?
After soom remedial work it was soon up and running
I disturbed some crap joins I made from the tank to the compressor head and that opened a huge can of worms
Forced to glue it and go to bed.

Where I went........

Sunday.
Off to woodhill for a last shake-down run before I hit the BOP & Coromandel over Christmas
Glue hadn't set on compressor
So I put a tap in the air line and held fitting on the compressor until up to pressure then turned the tap off. Kept the diff locked all day 8) 8)
Had a real good play in all the rivers at woodhill
Got real farkin wet
Worked out both front inner cv's are absolutely flogged
Bound to happen, they lasted three diffs and 2 1/2 years of abuse

What to do before next weekend.........

Tap compressor head and remedy airleaks
Replace both front inner cv's
Re-bolt front cross member after jacking chasis closer together
Get a rego :!:

Until then,

Cheers,

Have compressor sorted (no leaks, 2.7 ltr tank fitted) run compressor once per day :D

Fitted new inner cv's :D
Found all front diff cross members all broken :( :(
Anyone got any old wrecks of D21's lying around with these cross members still intact?

As I want to do Thompson's real soon, better sooner than later.
Will travel.
Going tro BOP this week!

How close is that bar to the body work? from the photo it looks very close in which case it won't be much help and will most likely just flex into the body. If it is close i would suggest cutting it off and having another go. I would say you would want it a couple of inches away? What do other people think?

nah its one of the side tracks along the rd...and yip getting pretty rutted out, my rear tyre was under water and i run 37's.

this pic is from where you said, ive been out there 3 weeks out of the last 5 and has been 1inch deep in dust one week and nothing but mud the next.

was thinkin of sayin its needs about an inch clearance... but needs more strength too. you'll be surprised how much a piece of bar like that will flex.. triangulate if possible. it'll get a decent punt and leave a nice line of dent in ya panel. better off not havin it in the first place.. it happens all the time..
