Yes, that truck still looks very much like it did on that day

It is great making progress on a build but generally takes not only time but money as well...

Plan is to get this bush truck running and get out and have some fun!

PS. I remember you dude

Had some pipe left over from the arms so my bro in law made this up for the rear shocks for a laugh:

Image

I'll make up a box to go over it and probabily incorporate a recovery gear stash into it.

I still need 1 x 30mm wheel spacer for the front - or might sell the one I have and get some bigger spacers for the front as the rear is way wider (2.15m) than the front (guessing 2m):

Oh yeah, forgot to mention the rear coil conversion has been done. This is Mark 1:

But have changed a bit due to bad Anti-squat figures. Have moved diff mounts of lower arms up to front side of Diff and chassis mounts of lower arms 30mm lower. Also dropped top arms down closer to diff head - makes top and bottom arms closer to parallel and improved the Anti-squat to about 75ish...

Chur Nibs.

Bro in-law doesn't have the gear needed to make up spacers but there is another engineering place nearby that I might talk to. It may just be cheaper to buy two new ones.

Only need them to maintain full lock - I could extend the stops out a bit further to solve the problem but would prefer to have a better lock. Also rear is approx 150mm wider than front currently with the 80 series diff and 60mm of spacers on so would be nice to balance this out a bit more. Not sure what the effect of a wider rear and narrower front would have on performance :?:

I'm keen to do the flex test too - might cheat and take the shocks off first. Dont think it is going to be anything like what you and Ben have achieved though

question time

Why do ya have 60mm spacers out back? sorry if its been covered. They just seem huge.

Take them out so you are only 30mm wider?

Yeah, bang on Fakey.

I already had the 15" rims and rubber but forgot all about 80 series imports running 16" rims to clear the calipers. The NZ trucks run 15" wheels (must have smaller calipers???) but I just completely overlooked this when buying the rear 80 series diff.

Spacers fix the problem though, and gives me more stability to go with the added height which is a good thing.

With a narrower front track it will increase its liklehood of rolling, thats why the mini and now most cars have wider front tracks. more stable. Just look at the reliable.

Cheers,

I would say the wider it is the more stable it is. But just by making the rear wider than stock I wouldn't see why this would increase its likelyhood of rolling over the stock setup?

I have driven gokarts with a wider rear end and they were really stable (couldn't lift a wheel no matter how hard we tried  )

I actually think it would be better with front and back to have different track widths particularly in the mud, means that the rear will not be running in the ruts created by the front.

I had wondered about that - theory being the rear tires are running on fresh dirt. Maybe I run it like that for a while and see how it goes....

Hope you are going to use some proper tyres and not those trailer wheels

Geezzzzuuuusss, I hope you have a good back and ankles, as getting in and out of that baby all day will soon take it's toll.

Yeah, its much higher than i was hoping to end up with  I cant get into it wearing jeans  Going to make a chain hoop under the door to assist this...

Have lost quite a bit of the guards already but might have to cut some more out for better up flex in the rear. Will post some pics to show what I mean later in weekend...

Painted the diffs and arms today. As I dont have a hoist this seamed to be the easiest way to get under there...

Image

Managed to get 1.1m under the rear tire:

Image

Image

Even jacked up fully in the rear there is still plenty of room under the front guards:

Image

Did the same to the front and got 800mm under the tire with other side still in contact with floor - just:

Image

Image

Everything worked well except i've got some more trimming to do to the back guards. Need to loose another 100mm or so - might also put in longer rubbers on the bump stops:

Image

Image

Time to prepare a list now of things to finish and tick them off one by one....

I dont recall fiddycent being a short ginga

those tyres have a heap of surface area contact - on clay/grass does suck :? Just a concern....

side note, those nicely painted headers (in my fawkin very old zuk thread) were crap, first start up the paint was gone in 30s (much like nibby) not heat treated.

50c wishes he was a short Ginga  Anyhow being short is awesome as when you take your photo standing next to a lifted truck it seams heaps bigger

Yeah, not much tread of those big tyres either so i'm not sure how they are going to go... Time will tell...

Chase sell an exhaust enamel in a spray can but they weren't sure if it would stand up to the heat of the headers - was wondering if that's what you had used?

Cheers dude - Seeing your rig out there has got me motivated to finish mine.

Have prepared 2 lists. 1st is what needs doing to make it drivable, 2nd is what I want to get done before any big trips. Hopefully get a lot of it done over Xmas break.

PS. Rexo is a good looking man - Loving those Carrot top styles

Been ticking a few things off the first list... put radiator back in (although need to redo - water pump is leaking big time), shocks and steering (waiting on power steer hoses), and relocated battery into rear tray (wiring is a mess and needs tidying).

Anyway - its been about 12 months since the engine was last run so thought i'd turn the key and see what happened 8)

Video is off my cell phone so you need to turn volume up real loud to hear it:

Then I thought, hey its a nice day... and the truck is running now... why not drive it out of the shed and work on it in the sun...

This is this first time the truck has moved under its own power with the new suspension set up - I'm stoked :!:

Still heaps to do. For every one thing ticked off the list two more get added :? But I'm making progress :D

Awesome work dude good to see it rolling, Has it still got 2F in it? sounds like a lumpy v8 when it first started then sounds like a 2F when it drives out the door. :D

Haha, yeah I thought the same thing - gotta love that low idle

It is still running the 2F - No plans to change that anytime soon. Just want to tidy it up a bit and drive it now.
