1kz-te Rough Idle When Cold

Post by churchill »

My Mother in law has a 1997 Prado (KZJ95 1kz-te engine) and whenever its strated from cold it idles roughly blowing grey/black smoke for around 10-20 seconds then clears up and runs fine. The rough idle can be cleared up quickly by holding the throttle open lightly for a few seconds.

I have googled this problem and it seems that its either the glow plugs or if its a hydraulic fuel pump the oil need changing. I'm not sure if these engines have a hydraulic fuel pump.

Does anyone know what is causing this or am I heading down the right path with the googled result?
