Winch fairlead

Post by Fakey »

Im making up a new front bar/winch mount for my 70 an looking for a new fairlead aswell. Ill probably be taking the cheaper option of wire winch rope.

So my question is do I have to run a roller fairlead with wire rope or can I use a steel hawse stylefairlead (I realise wire will chew up an alloy one)??

Id prefer to run with the Hawse style as it has less sticking out to catch on things giving me a little better approach angle

Yeah my factory toyota one is pretty rooted but my question is really about using steel rope with a steel hawse style fairlead ie will the rope or fairlead be overly prematurely worn or damaged under normal working conditions

I would pick a roller any day for wire.
If its eating your steel rollers now imagine what will happen to a piece of plate that can't help reduce drag.

too much friction and heat generated and thus wear from a steel wire rope on a metal hawse... go roller styles..
