Cheap Recovery Gear

Post by H2OLOVA »

Just called in to Steel and Tube here in Ch Ch and they are running a promotion. Have recovery strops (look just like the blackrat ones) available. 6 metre $20.50 +GST or 9 metre $26.00+GST. 8000kg with minimum 20% stretch. Also have High Tensile Bow Shackles 3.25 Tonne $6.00 +GST or 4.75 Tonne $8.60 +GST. Tow hooks (rated with bolts etc) $11.10 +GST.
Its a nationwide promo until end of September, so for anyone who is setting up or needs to add gear its not going to get much cheaper than this.

Happy Shopping

And for an extra couple of dollars you could save you time, petrol and running costs and buy from http://www.4wdbits.co.nz and have everything delivered to your door step.

Also remember those stropes if they are snatchmaster are only rated for 4 recoverys, and anyway you should be buying from 4wdbits ;)

I don't want to get into a shit fight here, just letting people know whats available. If you read my first post you will see that its a promo that Steel and Tube are running nationwide. The strops come with a tag that has a serial number and date of manufacture on it. They are exactly the same as a blackrat strop (i know this cause i now have one of each)

wjw wrote:Also remember those stropes if they are snatchmaster are only rated for 4 recoverys, and anyway you should be buying from 4wdbits ;)

The Snatchmaster you're talking about is what 4WDbits sell. So do we buy a strop that, you say, will only do 4 recoveries and pay over twice the price just to support a site sponsor? The Bow Shackles work out at 50% more from 4WDbits as well.
Now i don't want people thinking i'm bagging 4WDbits here cause i'm not. If they were running a promotion that would save us some cash while still getting good gear then i'd be letting everyone know about that as well.

Maybe i should keep these deals to myself in future

:x Hey I dont think its fair to hassle a member who brings a special deal to us all,we all know what our sport cost us and from a newbie's perspective (who is just setting up his gear)any money saved here is spent somewhere else on the truck..(possibly something only 4WDBits will have)
For my 5 cents worth.. Extended Brake Lines $107 to 110 each
Whats that about!!! :?: Safe R Brakes $32 made to order while I waited??
Now there's $140 extra I can spend..(What Specials have 4wdbits got??)

Good deals are good deals where ever you get them

For a few dollars (in the case of shackles and recovery hooks) you can drive across town or where ever :( and purchase them yourself, or have them delivered to your door step

We sell Snatch Master not Black Rat you can get from Steel and Tube.

Whether you buy from me or not, I'm a supporter of this web site.

In defence of Warren, those kind of specials just can't be delivered by small operators. Steel and Tube will have bought a s%$tload of these things, and will be selling them for next-to-no margin to get their name out there...

*I* wouldn't sell them that cheap, and I wouldn't expect any other 4WD shop to... theres just not enough margin in most stuff to make it worth while selling.

what you pay for when you come to me, or Warren at 4WD Bits (or any other 4WD specialist) is the experience, the skill and the knowledge... and while I wouldn't suggest you should pay double to support us, just remember that its us guys who feed and support this board. Profits from sales go into keeping us afloat and I doubt you'll find anyone getting rich in NZ from 4WD parts sales. You don't have to buy from us, but don't bag us for our prices. (I'm using the royal us here, and refering to anyone who sponsors this site)

Having said that, I'm off to Steel and Tube tomorrow morning :) Bloody prices are cheaper than my trade buy price...

Advertising is advertising. And i'm sure you wouldn't maintain it just to support the site. When your selling 4wd parts you advertise where your market is otherwise your wasting your money. While the advertising is good as far as keeping the site financially viable i'm sure you generate sales from your presence here otherwise you wouldn't bother.

My first post was a long way from hassling anyone about price, it was letting people know of an affordable way to get some gear and thats all, but when an advertiser pipes up and selectively recommends there own products then we have a big clash of interests. Granted Steel and Tube are possibly selling at cost, but as 4WDbits wrote "good deals are good deals no matter where they come from"

Dude, my reply was not directed at you... someone else in the thread started price-bashing. I'm all for cheap stuff as long as the quality is there.

And actually, I would, do and have supported this board financially and technically (and with barbeques :) ) for a long time... and if I made nothing from it business-wise I probably still would - I'd have nothing to do at work if this board went away  ...and sure, I make return from it but for me thats secondary to the main reason I'm here... I get a kick out of building stuff and seeing what others build. Fabrication... be it dayglo pink or just plain old steel :)

Call it an ego trip - but I think most of the guys who fabricate on here will post it to show others 'cos it makes it all worthwhile if others like what you made and say so.

Anyway, like I said - the post I made was for someone else - oh, and like I said at the end of the last post - I'm off to buy some tomorrow myself so I appreciate the original post you made :)

Supralux,in reference to your post regarding my post (i presume)
Price bashing was not my intention and i never said where the brakeline price of $110 came from, altough i did leave some clues.
That said i was only reacting to 4wd bits post that seamed out of line to me in the context of h20 post.
You have to admit it is a hugh difference, and just so happens to be what i was doing to the truck at the time.
The next day however i bought Goodyear 33x12.5x15 Wrangler MT/R from Peter Thompsons here in ChCh, for $300 each fitted and I see 4wdbits are cheaper.
So there you go,swings and roundabouts..
It is all about Fun..Fun with our trucks..with the best gear.. at the best price. 8)

On the subject of bashing, we've been doing some to our suppliers. Hope to be able to knock a bit off the shackles and tow hooks.

We got into this business because we thought the prices where to high, and the prices shown in this thread prove us right. We're setup to deliver known quality products at good prices to your door step.

I won't complain about anyone following a bargain, I do it myself.

PS. PM me for Black Rat straps at S & T prices plus delivery. (We used a really big stick).

You'll have to excuse me if some of my posts in this thread have been defensive, but i started out just trying to put our members onto a good deal, and then felt i was getting told off for doing it........big ups to 4WDbits for "playing the game". I'm all for supporting our site sponsors/advertisers (especially that Canterbury Windscreens place  ) but it shouldn't cost you more to do this.

In the end though a good outcome that will benefit all :D
