was away on holiday and my rear window wouldnt wind up - just beeps when i press the switch
fuses seem ok and could get it to work by thumping the tail gate around the key hole but now this doesnt work
may be dust related as we were doing a few kms on gravel
any ideas before i remove the covers to a have a look?

Re: 91 surf rear window problem
I had the same problem so just pushed on the door and put it up with the key and a few months later it just started working from the switch again. It thinks the backdoor is open so I tried to find a little button like most doors have and couldn't find anything like it.

Re: 91 surf rear window problem
brown surfs correct in that the beeping means doors open, usually its something small jammed in there so doors shut to sensor ain't quite right, they work off the 2 clips either side that go over the pins which are on the tailgate itself, have a look round that area, all ive eva had to do is open door, check all ok then close with a firm push
and she's all good again

1990 surf 350 chevy jacked up and currently under construction again

Re: 91 surf rear window problem
Possibly the up relay has died...they tend to die as more current goes thru them when going up than down.
The relay box should be in the lefthand side kick panel near the side box where you store the jack tools

thanks tallsam
found this on the net "I had this problem a while ago...does it beep when you try and send it up? [beep-beep...beep-beep...beep-beep]. Auto-elecs came back with one of the side latches having somehow shorted/broken/whatever and the unlock button being pretty finnicky, so basically car was registering the tray as down despite it definitely being up and secured. They disconnected it...so I'm still hobbling around, but works fine. Keeping my eyes out for a rear door assembly o get it all replaced at some point. "
disconected one of the side latch plugs and it all works now. plug it back in and the same beeping problem. hope there will be no side affects of leaving it unplugged

Maybe an extendable glass chopping board will be the only side effect.
