Welding Auto hubs

Post by lincooln »

Hi all

Today I tried to weld my auto hubs as the drivers side is banging when engaging and so on. But looking at the hubs they have no front cover on them, I can remove the hub but that doesn't help me at all.

I was told that the front cover is bolted on but it isn't. They look like this: (Well from I can see they do. These are not mine but a pic I found. )

Image (hein you may recognise this photo, I borrowed it from your blog that I came across as I couldn't be arsed uploading my own   )

So How DO I remove the front cover? can you pry it off or what? Was going to get manual hubs but I can not now afford it for a few weeks till I get paid what I am owed. Hence Why I am doing this, well trying too.

Cheers

Have a look at this link

I think they are all done from the inside.
But I am not familiar with them.

The front plate unscrews, anti-clockwise. The part that says AUTO. I think there is a little indent out of the plate on the edge, put a screw driver or something against the indent and tap it around anti-clockwise. If they have never been opened they might be stiff. Or you could use an oil filter wrench or similar.

Hi mate, finally back in NZ after a few weeks in Adelaide. Yeah, from memory that front cover will just unscrew, although you might need a big monkey wrench to get it to move if it's never been off! If you wreck it I have plenty of spares anyway.

I got the cover off. I see basically what I need to weld. just got to clean it up and see how it goes.
