wanna know how they perform on the road, been keen on a set of those for bloody long time, its just a pity ya gotta win lotto to be able to buy a set

"now about dem tahs"

When i read that, all I can hear is Carmen from Southpark.

They're $450 a corner skid. $1800 for a set is big money in anyone's book. Damn it!
How do they perform on the road? They perform like the rubber on the Holden mate. Like shit to a plankey.
I've been amazed at how stable they feel off the clock. But then the clock only goes to 160.
Once they are warm you can flick it round most corners at speed and know it's going to hold. I love em. just don't like the cost and how fast the rubber wears. (on my truck)

My mate over here runs 31s on his lux and loves them on road and gravel/dirt roads. He ran the kms before these ones and reckons the km2s are wearing way quicker though too.

I guess with em handling so damn well on the road. I mean, most cars slow me down on corners, there would have to be a sacrifice somewhere.
It's funny looking down on the drivers of cars I'm passing when they have a shocked look on their face, as if to say, you're passing me? In THAT?

lucky you, the 35" creepies I just put on 10s and onto the 80 are a barrell of laughs

gets to 50kph and tries to rip the wheel out of your hand and starts to dive left and right

it drives out of it at 60kph, then its hits slightly less intensity around the 100kph area

its always at the 2 speeds you generally have to travel at by law

gonna go see Bolo tomorrow on way to Sigs and attempt to help him get rid of a bit of lead they got sitting around by thier new balancer

Had some issues with the, "Marks adapter" bowl housing kit in the 40 lately. Had HRN fab me up a brass thrust bearing sleeve with a grease point. Because before that, the thrust bearing shaft was moving on the alloy casting with no lubrication. It ended up slogging the casting out making the clutch pedal feel grindy.
I hear the later, "Marks adapter" kits have been improved since i brought mine. Just as well.

See if marks will replace it under warranty? Surely its been caused by a design defect and should be covered for a reasonable time. Their shit aint cheap.

thats a good point.
ive just bolted my bellhousing up (marks) and dry fitted everything, and thought that it was unusual having the perfectly clean thrust bearing shaft moving in and out of the cast housing...
wonder if its worth me contacting them saying its a bit rough, and ask if they have any ideas.
we should tag team their ass pete, might get a good response if they get 2 complaints about the same thing at the same time

Well. I'd say as the MKII kits are a vast improvement from the MK1, they would already be aware of the problems.
Hey count me in. I don't mind telling them I had issues with the kit.

Mine has been in the truck for a few years now.
Like I said in the earlier post. I think they would be aware of the mark 1 issues. But it won't hurt to email them all the same.

It's all back together now. And the clutch pedal feels like it should.
Awesome.

Last week I headed up to Nelson to see the kids in the 40.
It was a late run up there. Got there around midnight. But not without dramas.
I was 45mins from Nelson when I heard what sounded like a tire bursting from inside the cab. I pulled over and checked what I could and found nothing. Carried on when 10mins later the same sound happened. Buy this time I was like, WTF!!??
When I pulled over to check again I was only glad I was parked on a slope. Because when I went to start the 40 back up after still finding nothing...click...click. Both batteries dead.
It crashed started ok and I was off again.

The next morning I opened the battery box and found that I'd blown both Optima batteries. Over a thousand dollars worth of batteries dead.

Off to, "Faast Fitt batteries" to sort it out this morning.

I don't have Optima's but friends do and they have such a long run out of them I am considering it...

I've done a little research into dry cell batteries and the Optima ones (Gel type) don't rate as high as the AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) ones. And I've heard the AGM ones are cheaper than the Optima batteries.

I know more by the end of the day.

Pete, keep us posted on HOW, WHERE, WHY :?: :?: :?: , Just a thought how hot do the batteries get sealed up in the box ???, how close do your exhaust pipes get to the battery box or even the heat from the trans, batteries don't like to much heat. Maybe high ambient temp along with a little bit :P , very little JANDAL was the recipe for the bang  , or maybe it's just the ROUGH  TARSEAL roads you drive on causing an internal collapse.

LOOKS LIKE AN EARLY XMAS PRESSY,

Have you had your alternator checked to make sure its not over charging the snot out of them? Seems very strange for both to go. In fact is strange for them to go at all. Ive got a pair of red tops that were in a 12v/24v jumpstart set up for 6 years an theyre mint (well they were when I last started my cruiser  )

6 years is a good run fakey.
The battery people told me today that the two Optimas are out of warranty being 3 years old. So I'm up for a new set.
But they will get me 2 AGM ones at a good rate. Plus the 2 new cheap as ones i brought to get me home, they'll buy off me at the same price I brought them at.

Still a bit gutted.
When the alternator was checked it was pulling just over 15v which is to high. I think the healthy range is 13.5 to 14.2 or something.
So it seems they were being over charged.

After playing around with some wiring the volt got down to 14.5

Yeah, I was just reading this thinking that your voltage regulator is on the fritz.

I had the issue with my truck a few months ago.

All of a sudden, with no warning, I started it up in the shed and the volts went up to 16v at idle, and off the scale as the rev's increased.

My point is, it can happen with out warning, so fit a volt gauge so you have some idea of whats going on with your charging system and get your alternator overhauled with a new voltage reg ASAP otherwise it will pop your new batteries too :D :D :D :D

IMHO
Now is not the time to sell her, Pete.

In my experience going thru various relationship struggles, our heads don't work that well when we are in a state of emotional turmoil.

Give the selling decision a rest for a few months Aye?

All the best for you and yours, and thinking of you in this New Year.
