Hilux diff interchangeability

Post by Lostkiwi »

Hi all

Just a quick question I have a 1990 Toyota 4 runner and have just blown the back diff :( As a quick fix will a earlier model Hilux diff head fit? [early 80's model]
The problem i have is i need the wagon for work and getting part's here [Norfolk Island] in a hurry is not a happening thing!!

I'm not worried about the Ratio as it won't be going into 4wd
But will replace asap
Thanks for any info you can pass on :D

Oh and yes i did do a search but could not find. Unless Ive missed something

Cheer's

Yeah man. If you want an extra spanner I'm all over it. Ticket's in the mail right? =D

Edit: So in order to slack off work some more I had a more in depth look into Norfolk Island.

Apparently the main town has a round about, Palm trees AND ANGLE PARKING! Got to love how dry some of the people who add content to wiki are haha.

Actually kind of keen to have a nosey there for the hell of it now.
Is it a thriving metropolis with angle parking as advertised or will I be disappointed?

Even the web site is awesome. One of the phrases is "Kat krors aa paedak aafta tii en wi gu sing = Cut across the paddock after tea and come for a singsong "

Right o, back to work!

Sorry i just missed the post :(

But you can still come for a holiday and spin a few spanners if you like
It's not exactly a fast Pace of life with only 1800 people on the Island But it's great for that relaxing holiday 8)
There still plenty of things do and see... Depends on what you are into and yes there is angle parking 8)
I came here for a six months worth of work and that was a 11 years ago!! So it can't be that bad!! lol

Oh yeah I spent the day on the Surf and managed to fit an early 80s diff head in So back up and running
Thanks

All good. Not like I had anything helpful to say

Good to hear you got it sorted dude. Can't be often there is a quick fix for stuff like that due to your location. Must rack up some big air freight bills =/

My only concern would what kind of male to female ratio that 1800 breaks into haha.

Sounds like one of those places that finds you rather than you finding it.

What exactly do you do there work wise? Something related to tourism I take it? And non work wise? A lot of fishing, diving etc? That would be a bit rough

Return flights from a bit over $500. Cheaper than I was expecting!

Female to male 70-30 So it's a top spot :D
The Fishing up here is Bloody awesome Differently not over fished

Work wise I work as a Refueller. I refuel the planes and keep all the servo's toped up Also the Power Station witch is run on Diesel Keeps me out of Trouble

At the moment I'm doing a full ground up rebuild on a Series 2 Landrover. I'm about three quarters the way Thur it. One good thing over here there is no certafacation  So the next project will have to be V8 powered  Don't know what yet, but it will be 4wd
Keep an eye on the Airfares as Air New Zealand do grab a seat from time to time. Usually about half that price
The first centence is more on the 50-50 side

Not with that kind of ratio! You could catch and release as much as you liked and somehow never go hungry

Will keep an eye out on the filights aye. Aiming to travel more of NZ this year, although the North Island was the idea but if a grab a seat pops up couldn't really argue with it.

Many flights in and out from other airlines? I only really looked at AirNZ and they seem to do a weekly run. I'd imagine things cut back in the winter though. You might get a boost later int he season with the flooding in Aus as people try and escape the carnage/reality =/

Yeah saw your other posts asking for an adaptor for your landy. You should start up a build thread man.
Can't imagine the local plod being strict on much of that  Is there any warrant and rego system? Guessing it's supposed to be that road worthy stuff that Aus has.

Post up some stuff on your landy when you're done. I had a gander at the 4x4ing (just the tourism stuff) but the first comment of 'don't expect any bush bashing' didn't make it sound to outrageous haha.

Air New Zealand fly once a week from Auckland [Sundays] And Norfolk Air do 8 or so flights aweek out of Aus

We have a warrant and rego. The warrant system is what it was like back in kiwi 25 years ago when they just looked out the door and said "Yep she looks good" Costs about $20 bucks for 12 months and the rego is $130 for 12 months

I should pull finger and put up a few pic,s of the rover. It's nothing special :) Just a standard S2a swb with a Holden 186 [couldn't find an adapter plate for the V8 :( ] maybe one day!!
Biggest problem over here is rust!! With the Island only 8km by 4km and a strong wind every thing get a good coating of salt
Anyway if you do mange to get cheap fare's up this way.. PM me and will see if we can get out for a bit of a 4wd If the rover is going anyway :D
