Looking at the pics, it looks like a great track and would be a lot fun, in the rite vehicle of coarse
, and it looks like you guys were having a good time also up untill this happened.

Toyota Landcruiser FJ40, front and rear lockers, 35" simex.
Toyota FJ45 build in progress.
Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set.

Re: Hijack during off roading! need help
to go into there for a recovery and out again is a serious undertaking mate, not just a quick tow
any more pictures ?? from the whole trip leading up to the "bomb site" where those pics are taken??
nice cruiser to by the way, looks like its well set up.

Re: Hijack during off roading! need help
3. There was a request and an agreement for the recovery of both vehicles between the owners and the recovery team. The verbally agreed price was $3000 and the only claim made for payment has been for $2750 as per a signed contract.
thats a contradiction to the email from the recovery team leader on the first page of this thread
zero4 wrote:Here is the email from the local 4x4 club leader:
Hi James & Jay,
Let's start with 7 guys @ say $50 per hour for 10 1/2 hours. Everyone who helped on the day, closed their business's for the day to do the recovery.
We needed 4 trucks to pull your heavy vehicles all the way out to the end of the track. Should there be a hourly charge for the vehicles fuel & wear & tear, not counting damage?
On the way we broke 8 straps due to the weight of your trucks & the depth of the bogs that we had to go through on the way back to the car park.
Pulling the 70 through I got stuck in a bog with the mud & water over my bonnet & that killer my starter motor. Also as you know I broke my plasma rope & fried my alternator on the first attempt to recover you.
We broke a steel PTO winch cable on the FJ40 which did a lot of the winching through the triple purchase pulley blocks.
The third truck killed his clutch helping to tow the Prado out.
The last trucks winch was killed whilst pulling your trucks out of a bog. We needed all three winches attached to get it out.
Labour $3675
Straps $720
Starter $450 not including labour to fit
Alternator $450 I fitted this myself
Plasma $400?
Cable $300?
Clutch $600 not including labour to fit
Winch $800? is the cheapest you can buy. This truck also did a couple of fan belts & an idler pulley but he said that was his expense, as they could be sourced 2nd hand.
Fuel etc $400 this includes the vehicles to tow the bush trucks
Total almost $8000....
In total I have spent about four days trying to, fixing, checking & finally recovering your vehicles.
Lets consider your alternative? Fact: we know of a patrol recovered backwards (on his way up to long bog) from the bog closest to the car park (the very steep one) which was charged $8500+GST for a digger to walk in (say 5-600m) & extract him back up that small climb. What would it cost to go all the way to long bog & pull your trucks all the way out from there. Perhaps $20k+ easily..
I tried my hardest to first of all do it myself, with the help of one other. I totally over estimated the magnitude of your predicament & had to call in some experts to help out.
I have also tried my hardest to keep you informed of how hard this would be & that it will be a reasonable expense for your mistake & suggested that you contact your insurance companies to help you with this expense.
We are not holding you to a ransom to get your vehicles back, but feel it only fair that you remunerate us for the extremely hard work that we have done to recover your vehicles safely off Thompsons Track.
I took this job on in good faith that there would be no issue with payment once the job had been completed, I only hope that this is still the case.
We were totally amazed to find the vehicle still intact & not vandalized or stripped the day we walked up, if we had not helped would this be the case??
I would like to hear what you think, but please do not try to negotiate with us as that would be an insult to the huge efforts we have put in to recover your vehicles.
7. The Prado has been picked up & the recovery team are waiting patiently for the land cruiser to be collected. The LC requires some repairs to make it fully driveable and the warrant of fitness is noted as having expired.
does anybody in the real world really think the preson holding the vehicle is getting annoyed at the vehicle not being collected and they are actually getting annoyed at having to wait for their $8k spending money?
8. The owner of the LC has not been able to be contacted and he should make contact with the recovery team to arrange collection of his vehicle. If not collected the vehicle will be handed over to the local police as an abandoned vehicle.
also in the real world I struggle to believe that the vehicle is being treated as abandoned and not as collateral
what a crock of shit the statement from BOP club is, the club has only demonstrared that it wishes to defend and justify the actions of the recovery team and has made no statement about action its taking about its name being used by individuals/members for financial gain and paticularly through the use of a contract using the club name, does that not matter to them?

They appartantly left out the word EACH in this statement.
Dont you hate moddern technolodgy... can prove you wrong... with just one click of the mouse

It looks like the BoP club should go into politics, just need to tune up your BS'ing skills

Also... just a quick thing...
when i went to school... 2750x2 didn't equal $3k... things have either changed over the years... that or the BoP clubs rate of inflation is different to the rest of us...

Hmmm, a racially motivated price hike?

Some good points made with the last two, but if I was in this position I would have had it sorted as soon as my truck was out.
-how could have both groups have let this happen.
Some very bad moves made by the "recovery team".
Some very bad moves made by zero4 and JJS.
Some very bad negotiating and initiative by both!
Some awesome fun had by both, before the sewage plant hit the wind turbine.

Although i love doing Tomos it is getting to the stage where it is not worth the hassle because of all the idiots that go up there in standard road vehicles and then get stuckEvery time I go I always end up towing people with road tyres and they dont even have a basic recovery rope as far as gear. Has anyone else just driven around people and left them there? I would feel like a big C Hunt leaving people stuck in the bush at night but like last night 4 trucks spent 1.5 hrs extra in the bush getting people out who should not have been there in the first place.

If I got 1/2 the amount of beer people promised me for draging them out I would be pissed for a month but sadly I am still to get my first bottle.
What do others think? Drive off or help?
charge them as much money or valuables as they are carrying and donate it to BOP 4 Wheel Drive club for track maintance.

Reckon if the other truck had a winch, you guy's would have been sweet, just swapped winch ropes over

If ya ever looking at heading down this way again, get in touch via PM, I would gladly have you guy's on a trip, and I would say that just about everyone on ORE would agree!!!!!
Most importantly, don't let a group of wankers put you off, get the remaining truck back and get back out there on the tracks!!! !!!
