jeep knocking noise

Hey guys
looked at a xj today and made a horrible knock in the steering only.
the guy rekons he checked everything and took to mechanics etc, with nothing showing the cause.

any ideas? or should i stay clear?

one of the steering arms comes loose on the xj's, mine did it and needed a tighten, its actually hard to and best got at on a hoist.

Also the control arm bushes when shot cause the steering/diff to knock, once replaced tho no probs since.

I drove one not that long ago, had same sort of noise up front. We put it on the hoist, found both front wheel bearings not just loose, but totally shagged
But what was causing the knocking was the UJ's both sides. In fact it still made the noise while going straight ahead
This particular one sold for $1500, had front and rear ARB diff locks and a cool winch bar as well. Shame the body was farked.

$1500 for that truck would have been a steal for lockers alone.
I passed on the jeep but still looking...

when i got my one there was paper work for a recall to repair
something to do with the steering
mine has been done. it might be worth checking out if there is noise and any play. i think the box was being torn free leaving you with no steering........which would suck
