Tyres for Bighorn - 265/75R16s

Post by Nikolai_V »

Looking for some advice on tyres. I’m after a set of 265/75R16 mud terrains for my Isuzu (Bighorn). I know they’ll fit fine as I’ve had the same size in a BFG MT on a previous Isuzu.

Trying to decide between GT Adventuros at $290 a corner, Kumho KL71s at $325 a corner or Bridgestone Dueler D673 MT`s for $315 – all fitted, balanced on the truck.

Do a far bit of road mileage, but need the traction when I do venture off tarmac. Performance on ice / frosty roads is important (might look at siping which ever tyre I end up with). In terms of terrain, mostly forestry blocks, gravel roads, weathered schist / central Otago rock+clay, as opposed to bogs…

Any advice, experience with these tyres? I`m in Dunedin and have been doing the old ring-around, and I`d rather buy from a local tyre place than an online outfit.

673's very quiet on the road, in terms of wearing i couldn't honestly tell you,

people will tel you the kl71's dont seem to do the miles compared to other tyres

GT radials are common for cracking in tread and sidewalls, only way to combat that is to run quite high tyre pressures.

Have you priced up a set of maxis bighorns? heard of people getting 70+ km's out of them and they have nice road manners and are very quiet
needs more curry

Have a couple of mates running the Kumhos and one had really good milage and another didn't both do about 80/20 road / off road.

Didn't think they were too noisy on road and pretty sticky off.

I think it wear depends a lot on how you drive, my 2c.

Hey Mate,

I have had 2 sets of the Bridgestone Tyres and they are a wicked tyre highly recommend good on road (wet and dry) and off road performed exceptionally well.

The only other tyre I have used is the RT01 Hancook (not avl anymore) and they were dodgy as in the wet. So cant comment on the other brands you have mentioned.

My brother n law has the Maxxis bighorn on his Safari and has had then on for years now and still ahd decent tread and he does over 150kms a day on the road.

So that's about a 32in tire - what sort of lift do you have to clear those size tires?

Cheers
Matt.

265's will fit a second gen bighorn without any mods - i had 265/75r16 bfg mts on my last one, with stock suspension. i have a set of 2" springs and uprated torsion bars to fit up though , just need to decide what shockies to run (a
nd pick a set of tyres obviously)
