New to the forum

Post by Filthy4x4 »

Hey guys,

Great site here. Everyone seems helpful and friendly.

Im just looking at getting my first 4wd.

I was going to get a surf as ive always wanted a hilux but im looking at getting a MU with a lift kit, 31" mud tyres bullbar and winch.

What is everyones thoughts on the MUs? pros/cons?

I was going to get a hilux but ive decided that a MU and a boat should balance out the hilux

I look forward to meeting you guys and getting out there and gettin muddy.

Hey man welcome

Where abouts are you in NZ? Just go to your private messages page and you can edit your profile there.

No about Mu's. I don't personally like them much. They dont have very good flex and being an Isuzu do have drive train issues. Engines are great though. It is a good beginner 4WD I guess.

I am sure others will have different opinions to me though so don't just listen to me

Hi uwshho,

Welcome to ORE, and yes this is a great site for if you want to get into 4WDriving.

As for your first truck it will be a good starter, as the truck I have now was my first and I have had it for going on to 6-7 years now, and like the post above there is bugger all flex and the engine is sweet.

But like I said before look at the other forums to get an idea of what you are wanting, and Iam sure the guys or gals on here are willing to help you.

Cheers

Cheers Ruben.

I look forward to getting into it.

Will be interesting raising vehicles rather than lowering them but I cant wait.

Whats the woodhill park like? I have a few mates with 4wds (not in any clubs) most of them are pretty much standard would they have a chance at woodhill?

Woodhill caters for Shineys right to the hardcore stuff, it all depends on what your mates are driving, so long as they have 4WDrive and a good amount of ground clearance then it should be alright.

There are lots of good tracks in there and there are more to uncover, I have been through most of the tracks in there.

also I would recommend to join a club. I would suggest to join NorWest OHV Club as we are based round where you are. Our website is www.norwestohv.co.nz

we have quite a few newbies but we also have plenty of experienced guys who are more than willing to give advice or lend a hand etc

Hey Lincoln, was just talking about the club with Ruben.

It sounds like a great idea as I have 0 experience with 4wding, also dont know many tracks etc so would be a perfect learning point.

I will get my 4wd and hopefully a decent recovery pack and Ill go do a couple runs with mates so im not a complete greeny.

When is payment due? or when is the AGM usually held?

Cheers

AGM is in April i think. you can pay anytime but if you pay now you wont have to pay for the next year. but its all good for you to come on a few runs before you decide to join properly anyway. Just to make sure the club is for you.

If you want to be added to our email list I can, just pm me your email addy. That way you will get club mags and updates on trips etc.

if you head out anytime let me know, I may be able to come out too.

cheers

Right finally got rid of my car.

Unfortunatly i didnt get the MU but I did how ever get a hilux :D but the lux only has wound up torsions and 31" all terrain tyres, no back bumper.

I have been told the head has been replaced (2.4TD) and it was their recovery vehicle for some of the other trucks they used to take out.

I havnt had much of a chance to drive it yet but will hopefully get used to it soon and go find some offroad to test it out on.
