Subwoofer in ute/truck?
In the new Toy I got (surf) there is a 10 inch sub in the back with a nice big alpine amp. Now personally, I wouldnt be that big into modding my in car entertainment but I have to say, it makes a huge different to the sound (a nice head unit up front and components all around).
The only problem is - during the day, my truck is parked in a less than safe place with this sub and amp on full view from behind, also it takes up a lot of the loading space in the rear which defeats the purpose!
Anyway, im going to take them out tomorrow but I know that the audio will suffer, I was going to relocate the amp to below one of the seats but does anybody know of or can recommend a small sub that will fit in somewhere a little more inconspicious? *spellcheck*

You can get nice slim line subs now that will fit almost anywere.
Toyota Landcruiser FJ40, front and rear lockers, 35" simex.
Toyota FJ45 build in progress.
Tires are like boobs, they always look big until you have played with them for a while, then you just want a bigger set.

Waiter...there is a drought in my glass.
Re: Subwoofer in ute/truck?
Have the same problem, I like a little added bass, but with the double cab + kids, not practicle..
Have always wondered about slimline subs, whether the make similar bass to "normal" subs. Haven't heard one myself.. Installed a set of slimline Blaupunkt components in my navara a few weeks back, the mids dont put out the bass that my last set did, Iv got it in the back of my head that its because theyre slimline, but have no idea really
Will watch with interest

Do Toyota have rear cargo covers, the ones that pull from behind the back seats to the rear doors. Something like that would be mint......

Re: Subwoofer in ute/truck?
A sub tube? range in price and quality like any other sound equipment. might be able to squeeze it in behind a seat or maybe semi under a seat.

They go really well but it comes down to the quality and make of the sub and its incloser, they still need a decent box because they still move alot of air like normal subs.

Theres a few on trademe at the moment, been considering something small for my surf as the sterios tiny sounding and was thinking of tucking one in where the tool compartment is on the side in the boot, you can take the outer panel off and remove the internal box and then theres quite a bit of room.
Main problem with mounting an amp under your seat is water when you get a little deep in the river.

Re: Subwoofer in ute/truck?
I had a double cab a few years ago and fitted 4 8" kickers behind the rear seats by designing and building a wooden flat box accross the whole back. It didnt effect the seat position at all and gave huge sound. The subs were mounted in the middle agains the back with in the box too. Took a long week end to build but it was perfectly done

i got a sub from jaycars about 180 bux, inc speaker and amp, seems ok to me, give the vehicle a reasonable bass, although i doubt it would rattle to bog out of the doors:)
sits behind the seat nicely
cheers

Re: Subwoofer in ute/truck?
if you can fiberglass.... an 8" woofer in each front door with a corresponding amp (200-500 wrms) would sound pretty mint and take up next to no cargo space. the doors act as an enclosure.

Re: Subwoofer in ute/truck?
I had a 92' surf with the amp mounted under the drivers seat, unbolted the seat and flipped it upside down then screwed the amp up underneath the rails, It was great, was a good few inchs off the floor so unless you got really swamped it didn't worry it, plus it was out of the way of back seat passengers feet. Didnt interfere with front seat travell at all. Little bit more work, but worth it

yeah especially for retuning. Had mine like that under the Primera front passenger seat. Meant that cabling was a lot cheaper too!
