Multi-V conversion on Samurai G13a

Post by HedgeBoar »

Hey,
I'm going to need to put a multi-V belt on my samurai -- The stock V belt only lasts a few hours with the falcon alternator + winching.... I've searched around and am struggling to find a clear answer as to what pulleys to use.

Do I need a crank pulley from a swift or a vitara? And does the age matter?

What water pump do I need? I've read I need a G16a pump -- is this the same as the G13a pump except for the pulley?

You can use a g13a 4 bolt barina / swift crank pully and water pump pully . And from memory the swift water pump .

I have a barina crank pully, and power steering pump/ tensioner setup that will bolt up to the 413 g13a if your interested, it's not compatible with my g13b

My g13b single cam swift multi v pullies fit my single cam 413 engine. The water pump is the only problem from what I've read. Havn't had to fit mine to my 413 yet...lotsa other work to do before that haha.

Cheers Guys.

UBZ, I have a PS pump & tensioner, but I would be interested in the crank pulley if you'd be willing to sell it seperately...

Please keep us informed on how you are getting on, my Falcon alt I ordered has just arrived. I had one on my old SJ a few years back on standard v belt and never had probs but it was only 70amp from memory and this one is the 110amp mitsi one as i have got to power 4 x spots, winch, headlights and heated drivers seat

Will do mate. At this stage I'm thinking I may need to get an extra groove machined in the pulley I got off UBZ. Currently it has one 3 rib and one four rib pulley. I'll need a four rib to run the supercharger (sc12) and the other one will run the alt, water pump, and power steering pump -- I think a three rib belt would be a bit marginal...... Luckily there is plenty of room on the pulley for another groove.

Update:
Seems there are three water pumps that will fit on the G13A:
-The one I have, which fits on the sj413/samurai with the clutch driven fan. 40mm PCD for the pulley studs.
-One that fits on G13BA samurais with no engine driven fan and G13A swifts. 60mm PCD for the pulley studs.
-Another one that fits G13A swifts with 40mm PCD studs.

From what I can tell, the stud PCD is the only difference between the last two. Presumably the last two are shorter than the first due to the lack of the engine driven fan -- this is what I'm looking for. I'll head in to the dealer to check them out in the next few days hopefully.

Meanwhile, if anyone has any multi-V water pump pulleys with either 60mm or 40mm PCDs they don't need, let me know....

When I tryed that crank pully on my 13b it didn't line up with the water pump pully. But I have been told the pump is the same as the 13a just with a different pully pcd

I have couple of 13a and a 13b pumps at Hm will dig them out at the weekend an do a comparison for you.

Also Ive been tOld that thier are 2 different types of g16a multi-v water pump ,pullys one of which will work with this conversion. Sorry I don't have any more info

That'd be great if you could compare them, cheers. I went into hollands suzuki yesterday, they had two different ones -- one was about 80mm from gasket face to hub face, the other 72mm. The 72mm had extra bits on the gasket face though and was missing a tapped hole, so may not be of much use.... The repco catalogue lists three different ones though, so will be interseting to see what you have.

Got a water pump and pulley this weekend. The water pump pulley from an 8 Valve vitara (found thanks to Falsgrave auto spares) works with the standard SJ413/samurai water pump, and aligns perfectly with the barina crank pulley (the inner one).

I've got an alternator pulley off a nissan V8 that aligns nicely, and also is much larger in diameter than the one that came on the ford alternator -- I suspect the alternator was spinning far too fast with the engine revs at 7k before.

Cheers for sticking this up. Will save me a bit of hassle when I come to fit my power steering :) .

Got this conversion all finished and running. Ended up machining another groove in the inner pulley (the one that runs the alternator and water pump) so it is now 4 groove instead of the 3 groove that was original..... The 3 groove belt would have been touch and go with the 110A alternator. Luckily there was plenty of meat on the pulley to machine this out.

An 845mm belt fits mint, if you're running a small alternator pulley you may need a size or two shorter though.
