Range Rover Body Lift Blocks
Hi,
I am going to turn down some body lift blocks on the lathe but as I'm away working at sea I can't measure anything on my Rangie. I know I need 10 blocks but what diameter is best to turn them down to and what diameter is the whole to be bored through the middle? Are they all to be the same dimensions?
I am going for a 30mm lift so clearly they will all be this length.
hope someone can help me out.

I have a 1974 2dr Classic Rangie that I have just fitted a 50mm body lift to.
I'll measure it up in the morning and post the sizes.

I have just measured my ones and they are 51mm dia and the bolt hole is 10.5mm.
My Kit came from Rovertym in the USA, I would get it made up my self next time as they aren't hard to do!!
The freight ended up costing more than the Kit
If I can help in any other way, just ask.

Mudhog's been of the road for about 2yrs with a few repairs needed.
I'm very close to going and getting a Wof again!!
Nothing like the sound of a V8 doing what it's meant to be doing!!
Hopefully I should be able to get some new clips up soon.

Hi Ian,
Have you done a body lift before?
What year is your Rangie?
There are a few mods that need to be done:
Steering
Seat belt fixing points
Radiator Cowling
Brake lines sometimes
I also have a copy of the Rovertym Installation instructions and a copy of the LRA 2.5 inch Body lift instructions if they would be of help.

She is a 1988, I haven't done a body lift before but I've read a up a bit on it.
I have read that the steering column should be ok you just have to loosen the bolts before you lift the body.
What is required for the seat belt fixing points?
Radiator cowling and brake lines I am aware of and shouldn't be a problem.
Did you have to extend the high/low selector at all?
A copy of your instructions would be fantastic if it isn't too much hassle.

Seat belts have a tie down bolt that holds the body to the chassis. I've just used stainless eye bolts as I needed to make them 50mm longer. They look like they will work fine, I'll just have to see what the WOF man has to say!!
I have fitted rubber flares now, I'm sick of smashing the fibreglass one's.

I found it locally, if you buy it by the meter it cost about $35 per M.
I ended up buying a roll and selling the rest.
I'll see if I can post a picture of it on the truck.
I got a Wof yesterday after the Hog had been off the road for 2 yr's. It feel's good to be driving it again and my 3yr daughter thinks it's the greatest, I had to drop her at Kindy this morning and show all the kid's.

That's great you got a warrent! 2 years is a long time to be without your truck. You must be stoked to have it back on the road again!
I bet your itching to get back off the tarmac as well!
I thought about taking mine off the road and pulling it apart to do a restoration and build it how I want it. Knowing this would take a few years to complete, I mentioned to the trouble a strife about getting another one to use offroad while I was building my other one.
Lets just say she didn't agree with the idea

My 4 year old boy loves the Rangie as well he is gutted when we use our normal car to go anywhere as he much prefers the "Range Raver" and he is subsequently gutted when we do go in the "Range Raver" and we don't get stuck

Well I took my daughter Jenifer out in Mudhog for her first trip in him and Mudhog's first club run in 2yr's.
I spent all day Saturday fixing down everything in the back, spare tyre, recovery box, high lift jack and spade.
Because Mudhog has been off the road for so long all my bits and pieces had been spread around the place and with me taking out the Lpg tank, one of my tie down points was gone
this meant having to bolt in some new ones.
We had an early start Sunday morning and Jenifer was really excited about our Mudhog adventure with the Landrover Club. It was a club working bee at a ARC farm up South Head.
Fulled up the tank and headed off to the meeting point, I could smell petrol but thought it was because of the full tank.
We headed of for South Head and I could still smell that petrol, but because I was following another petrol truck I didn't worry about the smell.
Half way up to the farm a car behind me started to flash there lights at us and I pulled over and stopped straight away. The couple (on there way to golf) said I had petrol pouring out the gas cap when we went around corners and up hills. I checked the cap and it was down, but it was not sealing and had a 1 to 2mm gap!!!! Bugger
We were just about at the farm and about a quarter of a tank was gone. I had swoped filler caps from my spare truck and had never checked to see if it sealed properly. I remember adjusting the original cap on Mudhog but wasn't sure if this one could be adjusted. Once we got to the camp site I pulled the rubber seal of and found that you could adjust the pressure on it and 2 minutes later it was fixed

Must have been good to be back out there! Glad it was a quick fix and it didn't ruin your day. Bet you thought the old V8 was being a bit thirsty that day...
I've only got 1 week left out here then heading back to NZ so I'll be trying to get out there.

I was thinking to myself that the V8 was using alittle more gas than usual, but it had been so long since the last time it was used on a long trip I couldn't really remember!!!

Body Lift is done
. I fitted a 50 mm lift to my 1989 Range Rover to clear my new 235-85 R16 Maxxis Bighorns
Heres a few pics of the lift:

It was all pretty straight forward and I managed it easily working on my own.
There was plenty play in the splines on the steering linkages and I didn't have to extend the linkage, I just loosened it off and retightened everything after the lift.
I seem to have enough extra in my front brake lines to get away without changing them.
The only thing that I wasn't expecting was tht I had to move the auto transmission cooler down about 30mm.
I fitted an extender to the Hi/Low change lever and everything works great there. Thread was M10.

Cheers Brett, probably going to go for a suspension mod next probably a OME 2" lift. I'll probably look at strenghtening the axles a bit before I get a locker..

Hi Ian,
With Mudhog's suspension I did a 4 inch spring lift and then made up 70mm drop shock mounts for the rear and lowered the front turrets by 70mm aswell. I then fitted 2 inch longer shocks which gave me alot more down travel and 2 inch higher bump stops all round to help stop the up travel and the larger tyres hitting under the guards.
My snorkel was made by some friends that are plastic engineers out of 3 inch 5mm wall ABS plastic pipe which they where able to weld, the cap is just a standard one I brought.
My truck is running carbs, so we needed to make up some 3 inch pipe into a Y shape from the carbs to the Disco TDi air box I adapted to fit Mudhog.
I have some pic's around if you want to have a look at them.
