Post by bigbear »

need a bit of help  need to make my mind up by tuesday or miss out on a sharp price. iam do alot of highway kms then a fear bit of crap country roads (gravel) and then farm tracks. they a going on a d/cab 04 hilux non turbo. of course i want a mud tyre that is going to get the better km out off :D .
ive got the choice out off the maxxis buckshot mudder or the maxxis mt764 bighorn (newer design not the older mt762) more after road preformce and what KM'S you guys are getting out of these maxxis tyres :?:
sorry at this stage this is the only brand no bfg's or cooprers OR kl71s.
like whats the lowest km on these on whats the better kms out there.

Yea I need to make the same decision. I had a set of buckshots a long time ago and they lasted well on the road i have heard of people getting around 80,000ks on the road out of them. I think the bighorns would be a much better tyre off road and if people have got similar ks off them then that would definitely be my pick.

We get 5weeks out of a set of Buckshots on the Landcruisers at work! Serious.5weeks!! but thats thrashing them on very very rough gravel/rock/mud roads,if you can call them roads. After trialing almost every tyre made they seem to be best Wear vs. Price.

had both as 33" tyres.

I would have bighorns anytime, much quieter and work alot better offroad.

...my near new 33's are for sale
toymota thats stock standard.

I have run Bighorns 33" 12.5 for 25'000 KM so far and they are great! I had the same decision as you, Just for the small extra cash I went for Bighorns and glad I did! As my daily drive she's low on noise on road and I'm out hitting the mud / gravel around 28 times a year. One track I do 1 to 2 times a year is west coast clay / mud track. First time I did in BFG and had to use the winch 6 times. Did it again late last year with Bighorns and only used the winch 3 times ... but also know the track better now ... but still I feel the Bighorns did better. I had to get rid of the BFG due to side impact damage, were the Bighorns I've had no problems yet. At the moment they are 1/3 down so I should get around 65'000 KM out of them before changing them :-) Hope this helps.

Oh and my avatar picture is the BFG on the track above :-)
