Help with Hilux

your looking at a truck that has done over 300 thou, your well into the range where things are braking and need replaced, annoying things like, window winders & tracks, door rubbers & hinges, steering ball joints, axle bearings and seals etc
As for the motor

If you are gona buy it get it cheaked out especailly the chassi where it drops down under the cab and below the battery

The tires are in good condition but i did find there was a bit of slack in the steering is this normal? there is very minimal amounts of rust in body and chassis has all been paited along with diffs etc so couldnt realy tell if there was any rust in there, but it has just had wof and all been certed so im guesing it should be all good, also as il be getting 4wd in next couple of weeks is there any trips or training days coming up around the chch area?

Just a note for the future a hilux chassi dosn't need plating.... unless its suffering from rust or your doing sick things to it
and what you discribed isn't sick
if you see any walk away unless you know the guy that did it AND you trust his work
My truck was one and I learned the hard way

ln60 surfs, same era are cheaper and as long as they are beam axles you're sweet........stay well clear of the IFS surf tho
Yeh I faced the deleimer of either getting the IFS vs Beamer.
The problem is that all the cheap good cond beamers have gone and anyone who is selling a beamer wants heaps for them. I had the choice of either getting a beam axle 85 2.4 non turbo surf with high kms and quite rough cond for 2.5k or my 87 IFS 4" Lifted Surf with recond 2.4 T engine 3" exhaust and in mint cond for the same price. So I think the whole go beamers is a little bit overrated although I know I'd rather a beamer but can't justify the price of getting a SAS done for just a little bit more flex!

But something like this would go well:

And remember you can always take the roof off and keep it as a ute!

Hilux KUN expedition ute with all the bling
Hilux KUN expedition ute with all the bling
All good till I read "rod holder" theres only one reason you'd need one of those, its been used for surf fishing!!
If your interested when you check it out take a ball pen hammer, get under it and use the ball end on the chassi if you dint it, cancer has it, lift all the mats look for anywhere where sand could build up and trap salt next to the pannels
I know this from experiance
and in my case the second to last owner had done the cheap putty and paint thing to hide things aswell

SWB 70 with winch & snork is a pretty good 4x4 right out of the box, so with the addtion of some decent rubber it would defintely be a good truck for the harder club trips. I would try & find a turbo one though. Not sure on the price, have a look on trademe & see what they go for.
