Disconator

Ok, so i took my Disconator out this week end for the first time ince fitting a" lifted spring, 2" body lift and new 33" tyres. What a nice ride. Didnt get stuck once, droped the tubes to 13 PSI and 2nd gear low ratio is all I needed to get up all obsticals. The new tyres showed me where i didnt cut enought body away by means of some awesome cuts in the new tyres.............
Now the question, where the wheel pulled the body outwards around the back door, do you bend it back and and then a bit further? Or does one have to cut some away but keep enough for the rear door seal to seal against?

Also where can i buy (other then me make one) an inline temp sender for the top rad hose as i am fitting to electric fans this week.

when you figure it out let me know and post pisc:) i am heading that way with 33s and toyota diffs which are wider, was actually aiming to get away with a minimal body lift, prefer nothing to be honest, what fans are you planning to run

Not sure what you mean. Can you post a couple of pictures? You should also ask your question on NZLROC on yahoo groups.

www.aulro.com is a good site too, have found solutions to a lot of little issues with my parents' Disco 2.

I was actualy on a a ride hosted by them on Saterday at Waiuku forest and no one knew. Its not a Landy only mod, loads of cars have them when they fit electric fans to get rid of the useless power sucking vicus fans.

Im just popping two 14" electric fan off a sender unit and also wiring to over ride with a switch in the cab. cant go wrong.

Did a few of these over the eyars but cant find the fitting so will make one to hold the switch, would only cost $20 worth of pipe and thread.

You do realise those useless power sucking viscous fans are actually far better than most electric fans - there is a reason all 4WD manufacturers fit them as factory....

Umm, wasn't referring to the fans since you already started thread about that just a couple of days ago and I would expect that any responses ought to be directed to that thread instead of creating a new one.

I was referring o the door issue, but later I realised that you werre probably talking about the passenger doors and alterations to the C pillars, not the back door. I was trying to imagine how one would need to make changes to the rear of the vehicle to ease tyre problems.

To my way of thinking there are two things you need to think about. The doors seal against the front edge of the rear mudguard so if you cut that out you wont be able to seal the doors and if you weaken it the same applies. So if you need to cut out the edge then you will also have to strengthen the part you've weakened, perhaps with bar or something.

Second, if you go cutting out that part and weaken the structure, you'll probably make a WOF void and not get a new one without certification.

And, about the viscous fans. Mine works fine to keep the engine at the correct running temperature, always has. It is actually very useful. On the other hand I have seen plenty of instances where people with electric fans have had `issues' because of broken connections, submersion and shorts, electric motors not working right, thermostats not correctly adjusted, cowls not having been rebuilt, etc.

Is your vehicle over heating? Are you requiring it to perform non-standard duties such as powering a generator (meaning that it is running at speed but stationary)? Or have you relocated the radiator so that the fan no longer cools it? If not those, then why would you need electric fans?

Sounds like you need the "Camel Cut" just google that and you will find plenty of info/write ups
Have to agree with njv6 your average super cheap fans wont cut it.I have one of thease
that controls the twin ac fans for some added cooling it has an adjustable audible alarm as well. As for mounting the sensor for it I replaced the top plastic radiator bung with a brass one from a 2 door Range Rover drilled a hole in it and brazed a bush to accept the sensor

I think you might have been on the run with the LROCA(Landrover Owners Club Auckland.)

Aulro is the Aussie Landrover Owners site and it is very good for finding out information on Landrovers of all types!!

not nearly enough cutting for my 33's. i need to cut back tot he start of the rubber mould.........have grinder will grind.............

This is my 6th Discovery (2nd in NZ) and did it too all mine with out any electrical issues. im an ex Audi/ Landy mechanic and do every thing like its going through the factory again. The fan drags too much for me at times and although it did not over heat ever i have always been more comfortable with electric fans on thermos and over rides than vicous fans. Dont ask, its just the way i feel and its never failed and thats with out a shrowed too on any of them. this in driving in 47 deg in summer on the beach on the east coast of South Africa heading to Mozambque pulling a 21 foot fibre glass cat too.

Your call, then. I am sure you know what parts must be required but maybe not from whom in that case. How about you provide some part numbers and some on here may know where they can be obtained for good prices :)

When you get your aftermarket temp gauge, it will come with a sender to plug into the top....... :mrgreen:

You can also try Super Cheap Autos, they will have both in one place..... 8)

Look at extending your bumpstops, if you don't want to cut into the body, I'll post a pic later today of how much I took off my doors.

Oh please do. Im gonna make a start this week end so that would awesome. The bump stop idea might also be the go and will measure them up tomorrow too. Thanks a ton.

BTW I bought a Disco radiator from OUTBACK 4X4 for %145 incl GST today AND it was a very very recent recore...........i had qoutes from $250 to $300 a rad in Auckland and these guys are awesome. So cheasp and they have 8 in stock and their aim is to be the cheapest around. Believe me, they are striaght up and cheap. Was a real pleasure dealing with them. I bought some nuts from them a while back and same thing, cheap as chips compared to others around, what a breather of fresh air lol.

OMG I just read the TRADE ME listing.......$26!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Repco quoted me $490 for a "tik" wich only have a few more wires and temp guage..........................I have clicked the buy now button already :)

Mine were ok with Camel cut and 32" until I put in 30mm wheel spacers, then a bit more cutting required both back and front. The plates that the mudflaps used to hang from I had to hammer a bit and push them further back, probably still need a bit more beating really.

Already had a OME 2" Lift.
BFG's 235/85/16 on standard steel disco rims no extra offset.

Will consider severe chopping like this at some stage as i have a set of flares to go on at some stage.
