help! g16a sounds like a DIESEL

Post by oljamesyboy »

hey all another question about the suk. when under load and idle the engine sounds like a DIESEL( sorta a rattling sound) when normal driving sounds OK (might just not be able to hear it due to road noise) doing timing Sunday anyone got idea what could be the cause uses quite bit of gas too

They are not that economical really. Mines started to do this rattling also...its got high ks and burns about as much oil as gas though

When they flog the crank key way they can do this as they lose timing I think too.

If it only makes the noise under load it's likely to be "pinging" or pre-igniting the fuel. This is quite harmful to the engine. Double check your timing and try putting in some higher octane fuel.

Good luck

ok timing all good but still sound diesel bright Mr mechanic said it sounds normal for a escudo and that cause the extractors it frees up airflow or some crap like that might get second opinion to be on the safe side - still going to fill up with 98 petrol to see how that goes

Valve clearances could be wrong..... It would make the noise all the time if that is the case, but as you say, you may not be able to hear it while driving due to road noise....

mine used to sound like a diesel as well people kept asking if it was a diesel
when i put after market extractors on it stoped making the sound had a look at the factor ones and it had a hole and i think that was making the sound

Yeah a small exhaust leak can also do it. My g13 manifold had a tin hole which made it sound like it was ticking. Completely forgot about that...Maybe I should check my escudo for that too

Guys, a hole sounds like a hole not a diesel! A diesel sounds like a diesel too. Zukies have a main bearing problem so its under load and mostly when hot then its th big ends on their way out.

Its a days work to pull engine, replace crank and bearings and refit so not too hard to do if it is this.

Fark then the plug i fitted to block the exhaust leak making mine sound like a diesel meant I really should have pulled the engine and done a bottom end rebuild.

His is doing it at idle as well as under load which could possibly be a flogged bearing.

Try all the little things first, then resort to engine surgery only if its necessary.

gofer
if it happened to be a hole making the sound i would be easy to have a look problem solved
pulling the engine apart to find out was a hole waste of money and time
i think i would rather find out its a hole than waste my time and money i know most holes dont sound like diesels but i know first hand on a g16a they can
