Sup fellas

Post by heroes legend »

Hey everyone,

I'm Chris, fairly new to NZ, and brand new to this site. Hoping to make some pals in the Auckland area - soon to be moving up to Whangaparoa :)

I own the most reliable vehicle ever - a terrano r3m v6. Ok its not the fastest, but damn it just keeps on going!

In the past i've been into my off road bikes, and in particular the ultra endurance rallys such as Heroes Legend (hence the username). Loved my rice rockets, but nothing beats the rush of a ktm motocrosser with a 1000cc sports bike engine on gravel!

Anyways, nice to meet you all, and if you're reading im just about to head down to Rotorua post cyclone wilma to see if I can find any puddles. :)

Chur!

Hey man, Welcome

well I would suggest you join a 4wd club. You get more opportunities to go wheeling in places you would't otherwise be allowed too.

I belong to NorWestOHV our site is www.norwestohv.co.nz

other clubs that you could be interested in is shore 4 wheelers or Rodney. Auckland and Manukau is a bit further away but still good clubs.

If you don't already know Woodhill is fairly close by and is open on the weekends.

How was Rotorua?

cheers

Thanks for the heads up about the clubs. The nissan is completely standard from what I can tell, so probably isnt up to the task of giving it the full on beans with a club, yet.

Rotorua was awesome. In the end the route went:

Akl - Cambridge - Rotorua - Taupo - Whakapapa - Tokoroa - Cambridge - Akl.

Found some basic but entertaining tracks near lady knox geyser of all places, though I do wonder about the legality of it all, and there were loads of tracks in the kings country area heading back from the ski field, many into the pine forests.

Wilma didnt seem to have done much damage down the area, but Huka falls was in full swing - have never seen the waikato river so swolloen, nor the falls so tempestuous!

Whakapapa was great - 1800m+ elevation in the truck, about 20m visibility, and howling wind and rain. Couldnt see a damn thing, but it was a good laugh.

The best bit? Over 800km driven, used about 90l of 91 octane. Thats better than my previous car, a subaru!

oh and you don';t have to have a modded truck to be in a club. mine is basically stock as hell too. and a snorkel for winter.

Clubs are great to learn driving techniques and stuff too.

At least you had a good weekend.
