aux fan override.

ive noticed my cherokee get hot quick when off road and pulling loads and by the time my aux fan kicks in its allready pretty hot and has little efect. what i plan to do is wire in a bypas switch to run the fan when ever i want before it starts to get high, for example if i know i need to put the boot in for a bit, or heading down the beach.
i thought hard about this and the best i can think of is a switch
that would let the normal circut run until i hit the switch wich would hook it stright to the batt. so i would need a : on/on switch right?
does this make sense or am i out of my depth?
i dont want to fry my rig,

Find the temp switch, piggy back a two ply wire (if 2 terminal) onto it, run to simple switch on dash, all done. If only one wire, then switch to ground (negative).
Uses the same relay and fusing

no the factory one is doing its job, it kicks in with the air con is on, or at 210 f as a back up for the viscus fan that is all ready running, i want to run it whenever i want to though, thats the plan any how, let ya know how i go, its a pretty common jeep mod im told.

temp sensors for that sorta thing can be affected by crud building up on em where they thread into I found. Could pull it and clean it to see if it helps.
If your going to wire a bypass that would be piece of piss but make sure you fuse it with a suitable amp fuse to match the wiring used and don't do it all bogey spec.

yea for sure, i now want to just piggyback the temp sensor with a switch, my consern is that if i do that it tells the computer that the motor is hot would prolonged use like this be healthy?
does the computer do anything else when running hot other than run that fan? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...........................

ha i just picked my jeep up from him, he rebuilt my alternator for me. yea he would know what to do but im trying to save a few dollars

If you are doing it then I suggest you wire in a 3 position switch. (ie 3 on positions)

1. Is to turn the fans off so you can go into water etc without th fan running. So this would turn on a big warning light!

2 Is normal fan operation via the thermo switch.

3 Is permanently on.

The only thing I'd say is make sure the warning light is reallly big!!!!!!

agree with the above, can i suggest a buzzer rather (or as well) than a light, it really is a pain in the ass when you forget to turn it back on..

or you can get fancy and put a two stage switch in that does options 2 and 3 above and then a push button switch on a timer that turns the fan off altogether for a set amount of time and then automatically goes back to which ever position your two stage switch is in. Far to much work for me to bother with but it can be done

yea good idea, well it turned out to be an easy thing to to,
the sensor must be an open close jobi, figured that out when i disconected it and the fan kicked in, so i just put in a switch to brake the circut when i need to and its away, then close it and its back to normal.
im happy cost ten bucks, booom

So replace the switch with a double pole, single throw switch.
use the other pole to switch whatever warning device you prefer.
Over-cooling is not as bad as under-cooling, but is still deleterious. In your case, a nice red LED pointed at your eyes would do.
