hey all i have an 85 hilux yn65, i am doing an engine transplant and it currently has a 4 speed gearbox in it and i was wondering what it would take to put a 5 speed in, is it just a case of unbolting the old box and bolting in the new one? or will i have to lengthen/shorten the drive shafts, make new mounts etc...... what gearbox will be best?
any help will be appreciated

Re: 5 speed into yn65 hilux
What gearbox is currently in it? Have heard the G52 is the same size in both 4 and 5 speed. A lot of people seem to bag the g52 but mine has been running with a 3.8 commodore motor in front of it for a few years with no problems apart from the crunching into reverse which has been like that forever.

Re: 5 speed into yn65 hilux
its got the standard 3y gearbox in it if thats what its called, im willing to keep it in aslong as it will handle the power of the new motor (supercharged 3sge). it wont be running max power all time just when i need it while 4x4ing.
